Abstract
【解決手段】機関排気通路内に、低温のときには排気ガス中に含まれるNOxを吸着し温度上昇すると吸着したNOxを脱離するNOx吸着触媒12とNOx吸蔵触媒14とを配置する。NOx吸蔵触媒14がNOxを吸蔵しうるときにはNOx吸蔵触媒14が吸蔵しうる量のNOxを脱離させる目標温度までNOx吸着触媒12の温度を強制的に上昇させてNOx吸着触媒12から脱離したNOxをNOx吸蔵触媒14に吸蔵させる。

図1を参照すると、1は機関本体、2は各気筒の燃焼室、3は各燃焼室2内に夫々燃料を噴射するための電子制御式燃料噴射弁、4は吸気マニホルド、5は排気マニホルドを夫々示す。吸気マニホルド4は吸気ダクト6を介して排気ターボチャージャ7のコンプレッサ7aの出口に連結され、コンプレッサ7aの入口は吸入空気量を検出するためのエアフローメータ8を介してエアクリーナ9に連結される。吸気ダクト6内にはステップモータにより駆動されるスロットル弁10が配置され、更に吸気ダクト6周りには吸気ダクト6内を流れる吸入空気を冷却するための冷却装置11が配置される。図1に示される実施例では機関冷却水が冷却装置11内に導かれ、機関冷却水によって吸入空気が冷却される。一方、排気マニホルド5は排気ターボチャージャ7の排気タービン7bの入口に連結され、排気タービン7bの出口はNOx吸着触媒12の入口に連結される。また、NOx吸着触媒12の出口は排気管13を介してNOx吸蔵触媒14に連結される。
図6を参照するとまず初めにステップ100において機関から単位時間当り排出される排出NOx量NOXAが算出される。この排出NOx量NOXAは要求トルクTQおよび機関回転数Nの関数として図4に示すマップの形で予めROM32内に記憶されている。次いでステップ101では図3に示す関係からNOx吸着率RAが算出され、次いでステップ102では図5に示す関係からNOx脱離速度DAが算出される。

即ち、単位時間当りNOx吸着触媒12に吸着されるNOx吸着量はNOXA・RAとなり、単位時間当りNOx吸着触媒12から脱離されるNOx脱離量はDAであるのでNOx吸着触媒12へのNOx吸着量Wは上式で表されることになる。

この実施例ではNOx吸着触媒12上流の機関排気通路内に排気ガス中に含まれるSOxを捕獲しうるSOxトラップ触媒23が配置されており、このSOxトラップ触媒23にはSOxトラップ触媒23の温度を検出するための温度センサ24が取付けられている。

- 機関排気通路内に、流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリーンのときには排気ガス中に含まれるNOxを吸蔵し流入する排気ガスの空燃比が理論空燃比又はリッチになると吸蔵したNOxを放出するNOx吸蔵触媒を配置し、NOx吸蔵触媒上流の機関排気通路内に、低温のときには排気ガス中に含まれるNOxを吸着し温度上昇すると吸着したNOxを脱離するNOx吸着触媒を配置した内燃機関の排気浄化装置において、NOx吸蔵触媒がNOxを吸蔵しうるときにはNOx吸蔵触媒が吸蔵しうる量のNOxを脱離させる目標温度までNOx吸着触媒の温度を強制的に上昇させてNOx吸着触媒から脱離したNOxをNOx吸蔵触媒に吸蔵させるようにした内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記目標温度は、NOx吸着触媒からのNOx脱離速度がNOx吸蔵触媒へのNOx吸蔵速度以下となる温度とされる請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記NOx吸着触媒からのNOx脱離速度がNOx吸着触媒に吸着しているNOx吸着量およびNOx吸着触媒の温度の関数として予め記憶されており、上記NOx吸蔵触媒へのNOx吸蔵速度がNOx吸蔵触媒に吸蔵されているNOx吸蔵量およびNOx吸蔵触媒の温度の関数として予め記憶されており、上記目標温度は、NOx吸着触媒に吸着しているNOx吸着量、NOx吸蔵触媒に吸蔵されているNOx吸蔵量およびNOx吸蔵触媒の温度に基づいて決定される請求項2に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- NOx吸着触媒からのNOxの脱離作用中、上記目標温度が繰返し更新される請求項2に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記NOx吸着触媒上流の機関排気通路内に排気ガス中に含まれるSOxを捕獲しうるSOxトラップ触媒を配置し、NOx吸着触媒からNOxを脱離すべきときにはSOxトラップ触媒に流入する排気ガス温を上昇させることによってNOx吸着触媒を昇温させ、このときSOxトラップ触媒の温度がSOxの放出される温度以下となるように上記目標温度が定められる請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
