Description
本発明は概ね、移動体通信装置等の電源に関し、特に選択的にめっきした接点を支持した板部材を含むバッテリパック接点組立体を利用したバッテリパックとバッテリパックを製造する方法とに関する。
バッテリパックのような電源は典型的には可搬性の通信機器の物理的体積の顕著な部分を占めている。この物理的な体積を最小化することは移動体通信開発の重要な進歩である。一般的に、バッテリパックと可搬性トランシーバとの間の良好な電気接触を提供するために金めっきした接点が使用されている。過去において、典型的なバッテリパックは図1に示すように集約した複数の電池から構成されていた。前記電池間の接続は溶接したニッケルストラップによって達成されている。バッテリパック自体は、該パックをトランシーバに接続するために金めっきしたチップを有する2個の捩りばねを坦持している。このような方法では、バッテリパック内にばねとストラップがあることが物理的嵩高さや製造コストを不必要に大きくしている。
この方法に対する代案として、ばねをバッテリパックから通信装置の本体に移すことが可能である。この方法により、ばねは図2に示すようにバッテリパックの電池の中の2個の露出した端子極と接触する。良好な接触を保証するために、前記電池の端子極には金めっきが施されている。しかしながら、電池の中の2個のみが金めっきを必要とするために、三種類の電池を製造する必要がある。すなわち、金めっきの無い電池と、金めっきしたマイナスの極を備えた電池と、金めっきしたプラスの極を備えた電池との全てを提供する必要がある。
このように3種類の電池を必要とするため、これらの電池をバッテリパックに組み込むことは不必要な在庫管理および製品取り扱い上の問題をもたらす。更に、電池製造の現実問題からいっても電池の極のめっきは電池製造工程の早い段階で実行する必要あるため3種類の電池を作るために3種類の電池組み立てラインを設置する必要がある。
発明の要約
従って、本発明の目的は従来のバッテリパック装置の欠点を克服するバッテリパックとその方法とを提供することである。この点に関して、本発明の目的はバッテリパックのサイズを小さくし、バッテリパックを効率的に製造する革新的な製造方法を提供することである。
本発明のこれら、およびその他の目的は電導性で溶接可能な材料から形成された板部材と、前記板部材と一体であって同一面上の露出した溶接可能領域と選択的にめっきした領域とを有する第1の接点とを含むバッテリパック接点組立体を提供することにより達成される。前記板部材と一体で、これも同一面上の露出した溶接可能領域と選択的にめっきした領域とを有する第2の接点を設けることが出来る。前記板部材と第1および第2の接点との間にそれぞれ切り込み線を設けることが好ましい。好適実施例においては、電導性で溶接可能な材料はニッケルを含み、選択的にめっきされた領域は金でめっきされている。
板部材自体は概ねU字形であって、第1と第2の接点はU字の端部から延在している。この点に関して、第1と第2の接点はU字の端部から相互に向って延びることが好ましく、選択的にめっきされた領域は第1と第2の接点の最内方端に配置されている。代替的に、板部材と接点とは概ねL字形としてよく、板部材がL字の第1の脚部を形成し、接点がL字の第2の端部を形成する。この点に関して、選択的にめっきされた領域は第2の脚部の遠位端に配置され、概ね第1の脚部と平行である。更に別の実施例においては、板部材と接点とは概ねT字形であって、板部材がT字形の基部を形成し、接点がT字の横部材を形成する。この点に関して、選択的にめっきされた領域は横部材の最外方部分に亘って基部に対して概ね垂直に配置されている。更に別の実施例においては、露出された溶接可能領域と選択的にめっきされた領域とは概ね90度の角度で折り曲げられている。
露出された溶接可能領域は電池の端子極に溶接されるようにすることが好ましく、選択的にめっきされた領域はバッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードと接触するようにされることが好ましい。
本発明の別の局面によれば、相互に対して隣接して配置され、直列に接続された複数の電池を含むバッテリパックが提供される。複数の電池はバッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードと接触するようにされたプラスの端子極とマイナスの端子極とを含む。バッテリパックはまた、それぞれ同一面上の露出された溶接可能な領域と選択的にめっきされた領域とを有するプラスの接点とマイナスの接点とを含む。露出された溶接可能な領域はプラスの端子極とマイナスの端子極とにそれぞれ溶接され、選択的に溶接された領域はバッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードと接触するようにされている。プラスの接点とマイナスの接点とはニッケルめっきした銅から形成され、選択的にめっきされた領域は金でめっきすればよい。一実施例においては、バッテリパックはNが少なくとも4であるN個の電池を含む。この点に関して、電池は、一つの電池のマイナス極が隣接する電池のプラス極に隣接するように配置され、電気接続されるパターンで整列されている。(N−1)番目の電池のマイナス極が対応するマイナスの端子極を構成し、N番目の電池のプラス極が対応するプラスの端子極を構成する。N番目の電池のマイナス極が1番目の電池のプラス極に電気的に接続されている。または、(N−1)番目の電池のプラス極が対応するプラスの端子極を構成し、N番目の電池のマイナス極が対応するマイナスの端子極を構成する。N番目の電池のプラス極が1番目の電池のマイナス極に電気的に接続されている。
本発明の更に別の局面によれば、本発明によるバッテリパックを製造する方法が提供される。本方法は、(a)板部材と一体であるプラスの接点とマイナスの接点とを含むバッテリパック接点組立体を金属のシートから打ち抜き、(b)同一面上の選択的にめっきされた領域と露出された溶接可能な領域とを形成するためにプラスの接点とマイナスの接点とを選択的にめっきし、(c)プラスの接点とマイナスの接点との露出された溶接可能な領域をプラスの端子極とマイナスの端子極とにそれぞれ溶接し、(d)接点から板部材を分離する段階とを含む。(a)の工程は板部材と接点との間で切り込み線を形成する工程を含むことが好ましい。この点に関して、(b)の工程は金で接点を選択的にめっきすることにより実行することが出来る。

好適実施例の詳細説明
図3は本発明によるバッテリパック内の電池の配置を示す。例示だけの目的であるが、バッテリパックは4個の電池を備えたものとして示されている。当業者は、本発明の特徴に対しては異なる数の電池でも適当であり、本発明は4個の電池に限定されないことを理解するであろう。
電池12は相互に対して隣接して配置され、直列に接続されプラスの端子極14とマイナスの端子極16とを形成している。プラスとマイナスの端子極14、16は、例えば移動通信装置(図示せず)のようなバッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードと接触するようにされている。
図3に示すように、電池は、プラスおよびマイナスの端子極14、16を除いて一つの電池のマイナス極が隣接する電池のプラス極に隣接して配置され、かつ電気的に接続されるようなパターンで整列されている。
端子極14、16とバッテリパックによって給電される装置の接点リードとの間の良好な接触を保証するために、金の接点あるいは金めっきの接点を使用することが望ましい。しかしながら、過去においては、当該装置のリードと接触させるために金の接点あるいは金めっきした接点を端子極に固定することが困難であった。図4を参照すれば、本発明に従って、選択的にめっきされた接点を電池の列の端子極14、16に固定するためにバッテリパックの接点組立体20が使用されている。接点組立体20は板部材22と、板部材22と一体の第1の接点24と、板部材22と一体の第2の接点26とを含む。接点組立体20はニッケルのような金属のシートから打ち抜かれることが好ましい。板部材22と第1および第2の接点24、26との間にそれぞれ切り込み線28が設けられている。各接点24、26の同一面上に選択的にめっきされた領域30と露出された溶接可能な領域32とを形成するために、該接点は例えば金で選択的にめっきされる。選択的にめっきされた領域は従来の要領でめっきされる。
接点24、26のサイズと選択的にめっきする面積とはバッテリパックにおいて使用される電池の直径と電話機における対応するコネクタの端子のピッチとに関連して決定される。プラスの端子極に対応する接点はより小さい‘+’キャップに対して溶接するに十分な非めっき領域を与えなければならない。更に、接点の全体サイズは、短絡を阻止する絶縁体が無いので、隣接する電池のマイナス端子極と接触しないように設計する必要がある。マイナスの端子極に対応する接点も、プラスの接点に対して適正に選択的にめっきされた領域を位置させながら、溶接するに十分な非めっき領域を与えなければならない。その結果、プラスおよびマイナスの接点の選択的にめっきされた領域は電話機の対応する電池用コネクタの端子ピッチ(すなわち間隔)と等しい距離だけ分離される。
組み立ての際、板部材22は接点24、26を電池の端子極14、16の近傍で支持するために使用され、接点24、26の露出された溶接可能な領域32がそれぞれの端子極14、16に溶接される。次いで、板部材22は切り込み線28に沿ってへたらされて組立体から取り外される。その結果、接点が端子極14、16にしっかりと溶接され、バッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードと接触する金めっきの領域を提供する。
図5(a)と図5(b)とは本発明による接点組立体の代替実施例を示す。図5(a)においては、板部材22′と該板部材と一体の単一の接点24′とは概ねL字形であって、板部材22′はL字の第1の脚部を形成し、接点24′はL字の第2の脚部を形成している。接点24′も同様に同一面上の露出された溶接可能な領域32′と選択的にめっきされた領域30′とを含む。選択的にめっきされた領域30′は第2の脚部の遠位端に配置され、第1の脚部に対して概ね平行に向いている。板部材22′と接点24′との間に切り込み線28′が設けられている。
図5(b)おいては、板部材22″と接点24″とは概ねT字形であって、板部材22″はT字の基部を形成し、接点24″はT字の横部材を形成している。接点24″も同様に同一面上の露出された溶接可能な領域32″と選択的にめっきされた領域30″とを含んでいる。本実施例においては、選択的にめっきされた領域30″はT字の横部材の最外方部分に亘って基部に対して概ね垂直に配置されている。
更に別の代替実施例(図示せず)として、図2に示す電池配列を本発明によるバッテリパックに対して使用することができる。本実施例においては、接点組立体20は図4に示すものと類似の形状であるが、プラスおよびマイナスの端子極に対応する最外方の電池に隣接して接点24、26を位置させるために板部材22はより長くされている。
バッテリパックの別の面からアクセス出来るように、露出された溶接可能な領域32と選択的にめっきされた領域30とは図6に示すように概ね90度折り曲げることが出来る。
本発明による構造により、移動通信装置等のためのバッテリパックは当該装置に対する良好な電気接触を保ちながらより小型化できる。バッテリパックの接点組立体を使用することにより在庫管理や商品の取り扱い上の問題を排除する。更に、バッテリパックの電池が単一の組み立てラインにおいて製造可能なためバッテリパックの製造がより容易となる。
本発明を現在最も実用的で、かつ好ましい実施例と考えられているものに関連して説明してきたが、本発明は開示された実施例に限定されるのではなく、逆に請求の範囲の精神と範囲とに含まれる各種の修正や均等な実施例も網羅する意図のものである。
Claims (19)
- 電導性の溶接可能な材料で形成された板部材と、
前記板部材と一体で、同一面上に露出された溶接可能な領域と選択的にめっきされた領域とを有する第1の接点と、
前記板部材と一体で、同一面上に露出された溶接可能な領域と選択的にめっきされた領域とを有する第2の接点とを有し、
前記露出された溶接可能な領域が、電池の端子極に溶接されるようなっており、前記選択的にめっきされた領域がバッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードに接するようになっているバッテリパックの接点組立体。 - 前記板部材と前記第1と第2の接点とのそれぞれの間に切り込み線を更に含む請求項1に記載の組立体。
- 前記導電性の溶接可能な材料がニッケルからなる請求項1に記載の組立体。
- 前記選択的にめっきされた領域が金でめっきされる請求項3に記載の組立体。
- 前記板部材が概ねU字形であり、前記第1と第2の接点がU字の端部から延びている請求項1に記載の組立体。
- 前記第1と第2の接点がU字の端部から相互に向って延びており、前記選択的にめっきされた領域が前記第1と第2の接点の最内端に配置されている請求項5に記載の組立体。

- 相互に隣接して配置され、直列に接続された複数の電池であって、バッテリパックによって給電される装置のリードと接触するようにされたプラスの端子極とマイナスの端子極とを含む電池と、プラスの接点とマイナスの接点とを含むバッテリパックを製造する方法において、
(a)板部材と一体であるプラスの接点とマイナスの接点とを含むバッテリパック接点組立体を金属のシートから打ち抜き、
(b)同一面上に選択的にめっきされた領域と露出された溶接可能な領域とを形成するためにプラスの接点とマイナスの接点とを選択的にめっきし、
(c)プラスの接点とマイナスの接点との露出された溶接可能な領域をプラスの端子極とマイナスの端子極とにそれぞれ溶接し、
(d)板部材を前記接点から分離し、その後電池を直列に接続することを含むバッテリパックを製造する方法。 - 前記(a)の工程が板部材と接点との間で切り込み線を形成することを含む請求項16に記載の方法。
