Description
本発明は、粒子の帯電に基づいて粒子混合物を分離するためにベルト式分離装置において使用することができる可動のベルトに関し、より特別には、改良されたベルト及びベルトの形成方法に関する。
ベルト式分離装置(BSS)は、表面同士の接触(すなわち、摩擦電気作用)による種々の構成成分の帯電に基づいて粒子混合物の構成成分を分離するために使用される。図1は、全体が本明細書に参考として組み入れられている共有にかかる米国特許第4,839,032号及び第4,874,507号に開示されているようなベルト式分離装置10を示している。ベルト式分離装置10の1つの実施形態は、長手方向中心線18を規定するために長手方向に配列されている平行に隔置された電極12及び14/16と、この隔置された電極間で前記長手方向中心線と平行に長手方向に動くベルト20とを含んでいる。ベルト20は、一対の端部ローラ22、24によって駆動される連続的なループを形成している。粒子混合物は、電極14と16との間の供給領域26においてベルト20上に装荷される。ベルト20は、電極12と14/16との全長に沿って粒子混合物の構成成分を搬送するために互いに反対方向に動く向流移動ベルト区分28と30とを含んでいる。
一つの実施形態に従って、第1の熱可塑性シートの第1の端縁と第2の熱可塑性シートの第2の端縁とを互いに結合させる方法は、第1の熱可塑性シートの第1の端縁と第2の熱可塑性シートの第2の端縁とに実質的に適合する角度を形成して、第1の熱可塑性シートの第1の端縁に同第1の端縁から第1の熱可塑性シート内へと横方向に延びる開口部を形成し、第2の熱可塑性シートの第2の端縁に同第2の端縁から第2の熱可塑性シート内へと横方向に延びている開口部を形成する作用を含んでいる。この方法は更に、第1の端縁と第2の端縁とを若干重ねて配置し、同第1の端縁と第2の端縁とを一緒に押圧し、第1の端縁と第2の端縁とを上記した熱可塑性シートの溶融温度以上まで加熱し、予め定められた期間に亘って第1の端縁と第2の端縁との間に接触を維持し、第1及び第2の端縁が互いに結合するようにこれらを冷却する作用を含んでいる。
本発明の上記の及びその他の特徴、目的及び利点は、図示の目的のみのために提供され且つ本発明に対する限定を規定するものと意図されてはおらず且つ同様の参照符号が同様の要素を示している添付図面を参考にした以下の説明から明らかとなるであろう。
式中、d=変形であり、λ=波長である
従って、正弦波の波長が203.2センチメートル(80インチ)(101.6センチメートル(40インチ)の溶接の長さの2倍)である場合には、式1は、11.43センチメートル(4.5インチ)の全体的な変形dを生じる。これは、ほとんどの装置に適応するには遙かに大きすぎる。なぜならば、上記したように開口部へのベルトのくっつきを避けるためには、ベルトの反りは、電極間の隙間の幅の半分未満に保たれなければならない場合には、11.43センチメートル(4.5インチ)の変形は、電極間の隙間の幅は少なくとも22.86センチメートル(9インチ)でなければならないことを意味するからである。これは、BSSの有効な作動のための電極の分離に対しては広すぎる。これと対照的に、同じパーセンテージの歪みが5.08センチメートル(2インチ)の反りの波長によって取得される場合には、式(1)によって与えられる平面の変形の出力dは、2.54ミリメートル(0.1インチ)である。この量は、BSSの電極間の通常の隙間よりも小さい。実際には、この変形の多くは、可塑的に且つ弾性的に行われ、従って、実際の反りは2.54ミリメートル(0.1インチ)より遙かに小さいかも知れない。
式中、Eは材料の弾性率であり、Aは円柱の慣性モーメントであり、Lは溶接の長さである
歪みは、UHMWPEによって形成されたベルトの溶接された部分の熱の影響を受けた領域と熱の影響を受けなかった領域との間で蓄積し且つ変形を生じさせる。反りによる変形の波長は、自由端縁を形成することによって溶接部の端部における応力とひずみの境界条件をゼロに設定することによって制御することができる。短い溶接部は、挫屈のためのより高い臨界負荷を生じ、このより高い負荷において、熱歪みのより多くが、挫屈のない変形によって蓄積される。溶接部が短く作られる場合には、反りの全てが、溶接部内に適応され、次いで、波長はせいぜい溶接部の長さ(正弦波の二分の一)の2倍となるであろう。従って、溶接部を(2.54センチメートル(1インチ)程度に)短く作ることによって、反りの平面成分の出力は小さくなるであろう。
Claims (42)
- 熱可塑性シートの第1の部分の第1の端縁と、熱可塑性シートの第2の部分の第2の端縁とを相互に接合するための方法であって、
前記第1の端縁と前記第2の端縁とが前記熱可塑性シートの面に対して傾斜が付けられるように、熱可塑性シートの第1の部分の第1の端縁と、熱可塑性シートの第2の部分の第2の端縁とに角度を形成するステップと、
前記熱可塑性シートの第1の部分に、前記熱可塑性シートの第1の部分の第1の端縁を横切る方向に延びている第1の複数の開口部を形成するステップと、
前記熱可塑性シートの第1の部分に接合されるべき前記熱可塑性シートの第2の部分に、前記熱可塑性シートの第2の部分の第2の端縁を横切る方向に延びている第2の複数の開口部を形成するステップと、
前記熱可塑性シートの第1及び第2の部分の第1及び第2の傾斜が付けられた端縁を重ね合わせて一緒に配置して、同熱可塑性シートの第1の部分と第2の部分とが互いに重なる部分を含むようにするステップと、
同熱可塑性シートの第1及び第2の部分を相互に接合するステップと、を含み、
前記第1の複数の開口部は、前記重なる部分を越えて前記熱可塑性シートの第1の部分の第1の端縁を横切って延びており、前記熱可塑性シートの第2の部分の前記第2の複数の開口部は、前記重なる部分を越えて前記熱可塑性シートの第2の部分の第2の端縁を横切って延びている、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記接合作用が、前記熱可塑性シートの第1及び第2の部分を相互に溶接する作用を含む、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記角度を形成する作用が、前記第1の端縁及び第2の端縁にほぼ適合する鋭角を形成することを含む、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記接合作用が、
少なくとも前記熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分が重なっている部分を、熱可塑性シートの第1及び第2の部分の溶融温度より高い温度まで加熱して、同熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分の重なっている部分が互いに接合されるようにするステップと、
少なくとも前記熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分の重なっている部分を冷却するステップと、を含む方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記接合作用が、
前記第1及び第2の端縁を相互に押圧するステップと、
同第1及び第2の端縁を、前記熱可塑性のシートの溶融温度より高い温度に加熱するステップと、
前記第1の端縁と第2の端縁との間の接触を所定期間に亘って維持するステップと、
同第1及び第2の端縁を冷却して相互に接合させるステップと、を含む方法。 - 請求項4又は5に記載の方法であって、
前記加熱する作用が、加熱された圧板との直接の接触によって加熱することを含む、方法。 - 請求項4又は5に記載の方法であって、
前記冷却する作用が、冷却された圧板との直接の接触によって冷却することを含む、方法。 - 請求項5に記載の方法であって、
前記第1及び第2の端縁を相互に押圧する作用が、一対の圧板によって同第1及び第2の端縁を相互に押圧することを含む、方法。 - 請求項8に記載の方法であって、
前記圧板の対の各々の圧板の幅が3.81センチメートル(1.5インチ)である、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記熱可塑性のシートが超高分子量のポリエチレンである、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記熱可塑性シートの第1及び第2の部分に穴を開けるステップを更に含む、方法。 - 請求項11に記載の方法であって、
前記熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分に穴を開ける作用が、穴が開けられたシートの開口面積が同穴を開けられたシートの全面積の50%を超えるように同熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分に穴を開けるステップを含む、方法。 - 請求項11に記載の方法であって、
前記熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分に穴を開ける作用が、穴の先端縁が鋭角を形成するように穴を形成することを含む、方法。 - 請求項13に記載の方法であって、
前記穴を開ける作用が、前記穴の先端縁が60度未満の鋭角を形成するように、穴を開けることを含む、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記熱可塑性のシートの第1及び第2の部分を一緒に配置する作用が、前記重なっている部分の厚みが前記熱可塑性のシートの第1の部分の厚みよりも10%厚くなるようにして前記第1及び第2の部分を一緒に配置することを含む、方法。 - 請求項15に記載の方法であって、
前記開口部が前記重なっている部分を越えて延びている方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
前記開口部を形成する作用が、開口部間の間隔が2.54センチメートル(1インチ)であるように開口部を形成することを含む、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法であって、
