Description
Claims (33)
- 昇華型染料の形成された画像を持つ染料キャリアで熱成形プラスチック基板内に染料昇華画像を形成する方法であって、
前記染料キャリアの前記画像を、固体平面シートから成る前記熱成形プラスチック基板の第1表面に対して置くことにより、基板−染料キャリア積層体を形成すること、
染料が前記染料キャリアから前記プラスチック基板に転写されるように、前記基板−染料キャリア積層体を昇華温度まで加熱すること、
前記基板−染料キャリア積層体を冷却すること、
前記加熱および冷却、およびそれらのあいだに、前記基板がその実質的な平坦さを維持するように、前記熱成形プラスチック基板の前記第1表面に対して連続的なクランプ圧力を印加すること、および
前記染料昇華画像の形成された前記熱成形プラスチック基板を加熱し、前記基板を熱形成すること
を含み、

前記上部コンベヤベルトおよび前記下部コンベヤベルトは同期して動く装置。 - 請求項15に記載の装置であって、
前記連続圧力システムは、少なくとも14ポンド毎平方インチ(psi)の圧力を、前記画像が昇華される前記基板の前記第1表面の各点に与える装置。 - 請求項15に記載の装置であって、
前記連続圧力システムは、前記加熱および冷却のあいだの前記基板の収縮、拡大、押し出し、および反りを制限する装置。 - 請求項15〜請求項19のいずれかに記載の装置であって、

前記冷却機は、前記染料キャリアおよび前記基板をガラス転移温度よりも低く冷却する装置。 - 請求項15〜請求項22のいずれかに記載の装置であって、
前記連続圧力システムは、空気バッグプレスを用いる装置。 - 昇華型染料の形成された画像を持つ染料キャリアで基板内に染料昇華画像を形成する方法であって、
前記染料キャリアの前記画像を、固体平面プラスティックシートから成る前記基板の第1表面に対して置くこと、
前記基板および前記染料キャリアを第1部分および第2部分を持つ経路に沿って搬送すること、
加熱および冷却のあいだに、前記基板がその実質的な平坦さを維持するように、前記経路に沿って、前記基板の前記第1表面に対して連続的な圧力を印加することであって、前記連続的な圧力は、前記経路の前記第1部分および前記第2部分ならびにそれらの間において、前記基板の前記第1表面に対して印加される、前記印加すること、
前記経路の前記第1部分において、染料が前記染料キャリアから前記基板に転写されるように、前記染料キャリアおよび前記基板を昇華温度まで加熱すること、
前記経路の前記第2部分において、前記染料キャリアおよび前記基板を冷却すること、および
前記染料昇華画像の形成された前記基板を加熱し、前記基板を熱形成すること
を含む方法。 - 請求項24に記載の方法であって、
前記連続的な圧力は、少なくとも14ポンド毎平方インチ(psi)の圧力を、前記画像が昇華される前記基板の前記第1表面の各点に与える方法。 - 請求項24に記載の方法であって、
前記連続的な圧力は、前記加熱および冷却のあいだの前記基板の収縮、拡大、押し出し、および反りを制限する方法。 - 請求項24に記載の方法であって、
前記基板はガラス転移温度を有し、前記昇華温度は前記基板の前記ガラス転移温度より上の温度である方法。 - 請求項27に記載の方法であって、
前記染料キャリアおよび前記基板は、前記基板の前記ガラス転移温度より下の温度まで冷却される方法。 - 請求項24〜請求項28のいずれかに記載の方法であって、
前記連続的な圧力は、空気バッグプレスによって提供される方法。 - 請求項24〜請求項29のいずれかに記載の方法であって、さらに、
前記冷却の後に、前記染料キャリアを前記基板から取り外すことであって、前記画像は前記基板の前記第1表面に昇華されている、前記取り外すこと、
前記基板を再加熱すること、
前記基板を物体へ熱形成すること、および
前記形成された物体を冷却すること
を含む方法。 - 請求項30に記載の方法であって、
前記染料キャリアおよび前記基板の加熱は、前記基板の領域において40%より大きい伸長を与えるような前記基板の成形によって昇華画像の濃さが大きく低減しないように、前記昇華画像を前記基板の中に数ミリメートル転写する方法。 - 請求項30に記載の方法であって、
前記染料キャリアに画像を与えることは、インクジェットプリンタを用いて、前記染料キャリア上に前記画像を印刷することを備える方法。 - 請求項30に記載の方法であって、
前記基板を再加熱することは、前記基板を少なくとも275°Fの温度まで加熱する方法。
