通信サービス(PCS)システム、無線私設分岐交換機(P
BX)および無線局部ループ電話システムを含む屋内通信
システムに関する。特に、本発明は、拡散スペクトル信
号を使用して屋内通信を容易にする新しい改良された分
布アンテナシステムを備えたマイクロセル通信システム
に関する。
非常に多数のシステム利用者が存在する通信を容易にす
るいくつかの技術のうちの1つである。周波数ホッピン
グ拡散スペクトル、時分割多重アクセス(TDMA)、周波
数分割多重アクセス(FDMA)等の別の多重アクセス通信
システム技術、並びに振幅圧伸単一サイドバンド(ACSS
B)等の振幅変調方式が技術的に知られている。しかし
ながら、CDMAの拡散スペクトル変調技術は、多重アクセ
ス通信システムに対するこれらの変調技術にまさる大き
い利点を有している。多重アクセス通信システムにおけ
るCDMA技術の使用は、本発明の出願人に譲渡された米国
特許第4,901,307号明細書(1990年2月13日出願)に記
載されている。

容量の増加を可能にする。CDMAの使用は、結果的に別の
多重アクセス技術を使用して達成可能なものより非常に
高いスペクトル効率を実現する。地球チャンネルは、レ
イリーフェーディングによって特徴付けられる信号フェ
ーディングを受ける。地球チャンネル信号におけるレイ
リーフェーディング特性は、物理的な環境の多数の異な
る特徴物体から反射された信号によって発生させられ
る。結果として、信号は異なる伝送遅延で多数の方向か
ら移動体装置の受信機に到達する。セルモービル電話機
システムのものを含むモービル無線通信に対して通常使
用されるUHF周波数帯域において、異なる通路を伝播す
る信号の著しい位相差が生じる可能性がある。その結果
として信号が破壊的に加算される可能性が生じ、時には
深いフェードが発生する。

ケンス拡散スペクトルCDMA変調技術は、衛星または地球
中継器を利用した通信システムで使用される狭帯域変調
技術にまさる多数の利点を提供する。地球チャンネル
は、特に多通路信号に関して全ての通信システムに対し
て特別な問題を発生させる。CDMA技術の使用は、例えば
フェーディング等の多通路の悪影響を軽減することによ
って地球チャンネルの特別な問題が克服されることを可
能にし、一方においてその利点を利用する。

る。都市環境では典型的に1マイクロ秒を越える微分通
路遅延が生成され、10乃至20マイクロ秒までのものがい
くつかのエリアにおいて報告される。
変調等の狭帯域変調システムにおいて、多通路の存在は
結果的に深刻な多通路フェーディングを生じさせる。し
かしながら、広帯域CDMA変調により、異なる通路は復調
プロセスで区別されることができる。この区別は、多通
路フェーディングの深刻さを大幅に減少する。多通路フ
ェーディングは、特定のシステムに対してPNチップ期間
より小さい遅延微分を有する通路が時々存在するため、
CDMA弁別技術を使用しても完全には回避されない。この
オーダーの通路遅延を有する信号は復調器において弁別
されることができず、ある程度のフェーディングを生じ
させる。

あるエラー検出および補正コード化の使用によって最も
良好に得られることができる。本発明は、時間ダイバー
シティの1形態としてこれらの技術をそれぞれ使用す
る。

高いスペクトル効率を有する。セル電話機システムにお
いて、1つが1セルをカバーするようにそれぞれ位置さ
れた多数のベースステーションを設置することによって
広い地理的エリアがモービル電話機サービスを提供さ
れ、セルの組が地理的エリア全体のカバレージを提供す

結合されてベースステーションとアンテナの間で転送さ
れる通信信号に予め定められた遅延を与える遅延手段と
を備え、前記複数のアンテナは、間隔を隔ててそれぞれ
配置されている複数の第1の組のアンテナと、間隔を隔
ててそれぞれ配置されている複数の第2の組のアンテナ
とを含み、第2の組の各アンテナはそれぞれ第1の組の
アンテナの対応する1つのアンテナと共に配置されてノ
ードを形成しており、前記信号分配手段は、ベースステ

と第1の組の各アンテナの間で転送される通信信号に予
め定められた遅延を与える第1の遅延手段と、第2の組
の各アンテナとベースステーションとに結合されてベー
スステーションと第2の組の各アンテナの間で転送され
る通信信号に予め定められた遅延を与える第2の遅延手
段とを具備していることを特徴とする。
技術の適用により、システム信頼性および容量が他の通
信システムより著しく高められる。さらに、上記のよう
なCDMA技術はフェーディングおよび干渉等の問題が容易
に克服されることを可能にする。このようにして、CDMA
技術は周波数再使用率を大幅に高め、それによりシステ
ム利用者数を実質的に増加させることができる。

れている場合、2つの送信機は移動体装置に同じ情報信
号を供給するが、各送信機は情報信号を変調するために
異なる拡散シーケンスを使用し、それによって移動体装
置で受信される信号全体を増加させ、崩壊的な合計の機

ステムを有しているデジタル通信システムにおいて、 アンテナシステムは、 複数のアンテナと、 前記ベースステーションと前記複数のアンテナの間で前
記通信信号を転送させる信号分配手段と、 前記複数のアンテナおよび前記信号分配手段に結合され
て前記ベースステーションと前記アンテナの間で転送さ
れる前記通信信号に予め定められた遅延を与える遅延手
段とを備え、 前記複数のアンテナは、間隔を隔ててそれぞれ配置され
ている複数の第1の組のアンテナと、間隔を隔ててそれ
ぞれ配置されている複数の第2の組のアンテナとを含
み、前記第2の組の各アンテナはそれぞれ第1の組のア
ンテナの対応する1つのアンテナと共に配置されてノー
ドを形成しており、 前記信号分配手段は、前記ベースステーションと前記第
1の組のアンテナの間で通信信号を転送する第1の信号

の隣接して結合されたものの間および前記第2の組の前
記アンテナのうちの隣接して結合されたものの間にそれ

1乃至11のいずれか1項記載のシステム。 - 【請求項13】前記複数の間隔を隔てて配置されたアン
テナは、指向性アンテナを含んでいる請求項1乃至11の
いずれか1項記載のシステム。 - 【請求項14】前記複数の間隔を隔てて配置されたアン
テナのうち少なくとも1つが無指向性アンテナである請
求項13のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項15】前記複数の間隔を隔てて配置されたアン
テナは偏波アンテナを含んでいる請求項1乃至11のいず
れか1項記載のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項16】前記第1の組のアンテナは垂直偏波アン
テナを含み、第2の組のアンテナは水平偏波アンテナを
含んでいる請求項15のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項17】前記アンテナシステムは直列に接続され
ているノードを具備し、 各ノードは、 そのノードの第1の外部両方向ポートに結合された第1
の通過ポートと第2の通過ポートと1個の結合ポートを
有する第1の方向性結合器と、 前記間隔を隔てて配置されて第1の組のアンテナの1つ
であり、前記第1の方向性結合器の前記結合ポートに結
合されている第1のアンテナと、 前記第1の方向性結合器の第2の通過ポートに結合され
た第1の通過ポートと第2の通過ポートと1個の結合ポ
ートを有する第2の方向性結合器と、 前記遅延手段の素子の1つであり、前記第2の方向性結
合器の結合ポートに結合されている第1のポートと第2
のポートを有する第1の遅延装置と、 前記間隔を隔てて配置されて第2の組のアンテナの1つ
であり、前記第1の遅延装置の第2のポートに結合され
ている第2のアンテナと、 前記遅延手段の素子の1つであり、前記第2の方向性結
合器の第2の通過ポートに結合されている第1のポート
とノードの第2の外部両方向ポートを構成する第2のポ
ートとを有する第2の遅延装置とを具備している請求項
1記載のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項18】前記アンテナシステムは直列に接続され
ているノードを具備し、各ノードはそれぞれ第1および
第2の能動素子を具備し、それらの各能動素子は、 両方向信号ポートを有する前記第1の組または第2の組
のアンテナ中の1つのアンテナと、 前記アンテナの前記両方向信号ポートに結合された結合
ポートと受信信号ポートと、送信信号ポートとを有する
デュプレクサと、 中間周波数入力ポートと、前記デュプレクサの前記送信
信号ポートに結合された無線周波数出力ポートと、局部
発振器ポートとを有する第1のミキサと、 前記能動素子の第1の外部接続部を構成する第1の通過
ポートと、第2の通過ポートと、前記第1のミキサの前
記中間周波数入力ポートに結合された1個の結合ポート
とを有する第1の方向性結合器と、 前記遅延手段の素子の1つであり、前記第1の方向性結
合器の第2の通過ポートに結合された第1のポートと、
前記能動素子の第2の外部接続部を構成する第2のポー
トとを有する第1の遅延装置と、 中間周波数出力ポートと、前記デュプレクサの前記受信
信号ポートに結合された無線周波数入力ポートと、局部
発振器ポートとを有する第2のミキサと、 能動素子の第3の外部接続部を構成する第1の通過ポー
トと、第2の通過ポートと、前記第2のミキサの前記中
間周波数出力ポートに結合された1個の結合ポートとを
有する第2の方向性結合器と、 前記遅延手段の素子の1つであり、前記第2の方向性結
合器の第2の通過ポートに結合された第1のポートと、
前記能動素子の第4の外部接続部を構成する第2のポー
トとを有する第2の遅延装置とを具備している請求項1
記載のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項19】前記各ノードの第1および第2の各能動
素子は、 中間周波数入力ポートと、デュプレクサの送信信号ポー
トに結合された無線周波数出力ポートと、局部発振器ポ
ートとを有する第1のミキサと、 中間周波数出力ポートと、デュプレクサの受信信号ポー
トに結合された無線周波数入力ポートと、局部発振器ポ
ートとを有する第2のミキサとを具備し、 前記第1の方向性結合器は、その結合ポートが前記第1
のミキサの中間周波数入力ポートに結合され、 前記第2の方向性結合器は、その結合ポートが前記第2
のミキサの中間周波数出力ポートに結合されている請求
項18記載のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項20】前記各ノードの第1および第2の各能動
素子はさらに、基準周波数信号入力ポートと、前記第1
のミキサの前記局部発振器ポートに結合された局部発振
器出力ポートとを有する第1の局部発振器と、基準周波
数信号入力ポートと、前記第2のミキサの前記局部発振
器ポートに結合された局部発振器出力ポートを有する第
2の局部発振器とを具備している請求項19記載のデジタ
ル通信システム。 - 【請求項21】前記各基準周波数信号入力ポートは前記
第1の方向性結合器の通過ポートの1つに結合されてい
る請求項20記載のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項22】前記各基準周波数信号入力ポートは前記
第2の方向性結合器の通過ポートの1つに結合されてい
る請求項20記載のデジタル通信システム。 - 【請求項23】前記各基準周波数信号入力ポートはロー
パスフィルタを通って前記第1の方向性結合器の前記通
過ポートの1つに結合されている請求項20記載のデジタ
ル通信システム。 - 【請求項24】間隔を隔てて配置されている第1のアン
テナの各アンテナと、対応する同じノードの第2の組の
アンテナのアンテナの間隔は、遠隔端末とベースステー
ションとの間の通信に使用される無線周波数の波長の10
乃至20波長程度の大きさである請求項1乃至23のいずれ
か1項記載のデジタル通信システム。
