Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】本発明は、ゴルフボール、より詳しくは、
複数の部分で構成されたボールの構造に関するものであ
る。
【０００２】先行技術においては、主として２種類のゴ
ルフボールがある。一方では、いわゆる中実な「ツー・
ピース」型と呼ばれるボールが存在する。この種のボー
ルの性質は、ゴム製の一体部材からなる球形芯部とイオ
ノマー樹脂でできた硬質の熱可塑性外皮との組み合わせ
によってもたらされるものである。こうしたボールの主
な長所は、その初速が早いことにより、ロングショット
において非常に性能が高いことである。これに対し、イ
ンパクト時には硬い感触を与える。その主な理由はこれ
らのボールが高い剛性を有するためである。その結果、
ショートショットあるいはアプローチショットにおいて
は、初速が早いことならびに面との接触面積が小さいこ
とにより、ボールのコントロールが乱れ、かつ回転速度
が不足することにより、落下地点におけるボールの安定
性が不利になる。
【０００３】他方では、「スリー・ピース」型の巻き付
け式のボールがある。これらのボールは、中央の固体ま
たは液体の芯部と、ゴム糸の巻線と、１ｍｍから２ｍｍ
の厚みのイオノマー樹脂またはバラタゴムでできた熱可
塑性の外皮とで構成される。巻き付けられた芯部の外部
層が高い変形能を有することにより、圧縮率がより小さ
く、従って接触面がより大きくなり、インパクト時には
軟らかい感触を与える。これに対し、この種のボール
は、「ツー・ピース」型のボールの場合とは逆に、ロン
グショットにおける性能が低下する。
【０００４】本発明は、ゴルフ競技のあらゆる部分にお
いて満足できるような性能、すなわち、最も速いボール
の初速に近い早い初速、感触の良さ、アプローチ競技に
おける良好なコントロール、およびショットの再現性な
らびに優れた耐久性を有する新しい設計思想に基づくボ
ールを提案することを目的とする。
【０００５】本発明の他の目的は、最低限のパラメータ
しか変化させないでユーザーの厳密な要求に応えること
ができる広い範囲の性能を網羅できるようにすることに
ある。
【０００６】本発明の更に他の目的は、構造ならびに使
用する材料の選定によって、高い生産性を可能にする自
動化されかつ信頼性の高い製造方法を使用できるように
することにある。
【０００７】本発明に基づき、３つの部分から成る構造
によって、所望の性質が得られる。このゴルフボール
は、エラストマー製の芯部と、中間層と、熱可塑性外皮
とで構成されており、この中間層が、少なくとも１０％
（好ましくは、少なくとも３５％）のエーテルのブロッ
ク共重合体を含む熱可塑性材料で製作されることを主な
特徴とする。
【０００８】ここで言う「エーテルのブロック共重合
体」とは、その様々な成分の鎖の長さが一定のブロック
から形成されたブロック共重合体を意味する。
【０００９】このようなエーテルのブロック共重合体は
２つの相を有する。すなわち、１つは軟らかい相（つま
り、エーテルのブロック）、もう１つは硬い相である。
これら２の相の性状ならびに比率を変えることにより、
非常に軟らかいものから比較的硬いものに至るまでのか
なり幅の広い製品を得ることができる。
【００１０】これら共重合体の内で、本出願人が特に好
ましいとするものは、一方では、アミドのブロック共重
合体であり、他方では、コポリエーテル・ブロック・エ
ステルである。アミドのブロック共重合体（ＰＥＢＡ）
は、ＡＴＯＣＨＥＭ社が販売している「ペバックス（Ｐ
ＥＢＡＸ）」の商標名でよく知られている。また、ＥＭ
Ｓ社が販売している「グリラミド（ＧＲＩＬＡＭＩ
Ｄ）」、あるいは、ＨＵＥＬＳ社の「ヴェスタミド（Ｖ
ＥＳＴＡＭＩＤ）」も使用できる。
【００１１】ポリエーテル・ブロック・エステル類（Ｐ
ＥＢＥ）については、これらはポリブチレンテレフタラ
ート（ＰＢＴ）系の硬い相を有する生成物である。これ
らのポリエーテル・ブロック・エステル類は、ＤＵ ＰＯ
ＮＴＤＥ ＮＥＭＯＵＲＳ社の「ハイトレル（ＨＹＴＲ
ＥＬ）」あるいは、ＡＫＺＯ社の「アルニテル（ＡＲＮ
ＩＴＥＬ）」の商標名で知られている。
【００１２】本発明の組成はそのまま用いて中間層を形
成することもできる。この場合には、感触が非常に良
く、かつ初速の早い点で評価できるボールが得られる。
これに対し、弾性係数が小さいため、こうしたボールは
インパクト時に変形しすぎる傾向がある。
【００１３】この問題は、エーテルのブロック共重合体
とイオノマー（単数または複数）との混合物を製造する
ことにより、有利に解決できる。イオノマー（単数また
は複数）の割合は混合物の総重量の０〜９０重量％（好
ましくは２０〜６５％）の範囲で変化させることができ
る。本出願人が好ましいとするイオノマーのショアＤ硬
度は５５〜６５の範囲内であり、曲げ弾性係数は２５０
〜３５０Ｎ／ｍｍ2の範囲内である。この場合、該組成
中のポリエーテル・ブロック・アミドの割合は、ショア
Ｄ硬度３０〜４０の場合で３５〜８０％である。
【００１４】以下に述べる本発明の実施態様の説明によ
り、本発明をよりよく理解することができ、かつその長
所が明らかとなろう。
【００１５】本発明のボールは、「スリー・ピース」型
のボールである。すなわち、異なる３つの層で構成され
ている。
【００１６】図１に示すように、芯部１は、直径が３４
〜３８ｍｍの熱可塑性あるいは熱硬化性あるいは可加硫
性のエラストマーで構成される。この芯部の密度は１〜
１．３ｇ／ｃｍ3であり、その硬さはショアＤ硬度で４０
〜５０である。この芯部の圧縮は１５０ｋｇの荷重で測
定して、直径を３６ｍｍに固定した場合で約２．８〜
４．５ｍｍの範囲内である。
【００１７】本出願人が特に好ましいとするエラストマ
ーは、酸化亜鉛とジアクリル酸亜鉛を主成分とする反応
生成物を含むシス−１，４−ポリブタジエン系の架橋ジ
エン・エラストマーである。この組成中には、更に、例
えばジクミルペルオキシドのような架橋剤が含まれる。
【００１８】中間部分２は、ポリエーテル・ブロック・
アミド（好ましくは、ポリエーテルエステルアミド）の
射出および押出し成形が可能な熱可塑性共重合体であ
り、その製造方法はＡＴＯＣＨＥＭ社のフランス特許第
２２７３０２１号に説明されている。
【００１９】一例として、純粋なペバックス（ＰＥＢＡ
Ｘ）でできた中間層を有するボールを製作した。これら
のボールの特性および性質を下記の表１および表２に示
す。
【００２０】好ましい実施態様において、該中間部分２
はポリエーテル・ブロック・アミドとイオノマー（単数
または複数）の混合物で構成される。表３および表４
は、ペバックス（ＰＥＢＡＸ）３５３３とエスコール
（ＥＳＣＯＲ）を主成分とする組成で中間層を製作した
ボールの特性および性質を示す。
【００２１】一般的に、芯部１のまわりに設けた層２は
約１〜３ｍｍの厚みを有し、弾性係数は１５〜２５０Ｎ
／ｍｍ2である。使用する共重合体の種類により、硬さは
ショアＤ硬度で約２５から５０までの範囲で変化させて
もよい。これらのパラメータの影響は大きく、かつボー
ルの性能特性を条件付ける。与えられた厚みについて、
該中間層のショアＤ硬度が約３０〜３７の低い値のボー
ル（曲げ弾性係数が低いもの）は、その感触が良いこ
と、ならびに回転速度（つまり「スピン」）が高いこと
によりコントロールが良好な点において評価される。反
対に、中間層のショアＤ硬度が４０〜５０の範囲にある
ボール（曲げ弾性係数も高い）は、その初速が最適であ
り、かつ耐久性が優れていることにより評価される。
【００２２】表１と表３とを比較すると、エーテルのブ
ロック共重合体の組成にイオノマーを加えても硬さの値
は変わらないが、反対に引張弾性係数の測定値は著しく
増大することが分かる。この効果は特に興味深いもので
ある。なぜなら、該中間層はインパクト時の芯部の機械
的安定性に貢献し、かつ芯部の変形を有利に制限するか
らである。この中間層は、力学的に見て、いわゆる「巻
き付け」式ボールにおける弾性フィラメントの巻き付け
層のような挙動を示す。
【００２３】ボールの内部構造を形成する２つの部分
１、２の全体の圧縮は、１５０ｋｇの荷重のもとで、全
直径を４０ｍｍとした場合、２．５〜４である。
【００２４】外部層３はボールの外皮を形成する。この
外部層は熱可塑性材料でできており、０．９〜３ｍｍの
範囲の厚みを有する。
【００２５】材料の選択については、外皮に対して要求
される本質的な性質が対衝撃性と耐久性ということであ
る限りにおいて、比較的幅広い選択の余地がある。従っ
て、本発明のボールのこうした特性を維持するために
は、外皮の硬さの値が中間層の硬さの値よりも大きいこ
とが重要である。
【００２６】許容される硬さの範囲は、密度が０.８〜
１.２ｇ／ｃｍ3で曲げ弾性係数が３０〜２８０Ｎ／ｍｍ
2のときに、ショアＤ硬度で４０〜５５であり、特に４３
〜４８の範囲であることが好ましい。
【００２７】本出願人が好ましいとする材料の内、ＤＵ
ＰＯＮＴ ＤＥ ＮＥＭＯＵＲＳ社が販売している「サー
リン（ＳＵＲＬＹＮ）」のような種類のイオノマーある
いはＥＸＸＯＮ社の「イオテック（ＩＯＴＥＣ）」のよ
うな種類のイオノマー、中間層に使用されるアミドのブ
ロック共重合体と同じ種類のもので硬さの値がより高い
もの、イオノマーとアミドのブロック共重合体の混合
物、熱可塑性ポリウレタン、ならびにこれらの材料の混
合物を選ぶのが好ましい。
【００２８】これら３層１、２および３を組み合わせる
ことにより、直径が４２．７〜４２．８ｍｍのボールの
完成品が得られる。１５０ｋｇの荷重のもとで測定した
このボールの圧縮は、２．５〜４ｍｍの範囲内である。
【００２９】一例として、本発明によるいくつかのボー
ルの物理的特性および挙動特性ならびに性質を、普通に
用いられている市販の従来のボールと比較してみた。こ
の結果を以下の表１から表４に示す。

Claims (13)

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 エラストマー製の芯部（１）と、中間層
    （２）と、熱可塑性材料から成る外皮（３）とで構成さ
    れるゴルフボールにおいて、 前記中間層（２）が、組成物の総重量に対して少なくと
    も１０重量％、好ましくは少なくとも３５重量％のアミ
    ドのブロック共重合体を含む熱可塑性材料で製作される
    ことを特徴とするゴルフボール。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記アミドのブロック共重合体がポリエ
    ーテルエステルアミドであることを特徴とする請求項１
    によるゴルフボール。
  3. 【請求項３】 前記中間層（２）の組成がアミドのブロ
    ック共重合体とイオノマー（１種または複数種）の混合
    物からなることを特徴とする請求項１によるゴルフボー
    ル。
  4. 【請求項４】 前記中間層の組成が０ないし９０重量
    ％、好ましくは２０ないし６５重量％のイオノマーを含
    み、前記イオノマーのショアＤ硬度が５５ないし６５
    で、その屈曲弾性率が２５０ないし３５０Ｎ／ｍｍ2 で
    あることを特徴とする請求 項３によるゴルフボール。
  5. 【請求項５】 前記中間層の組成が３５ないし８０重量
    ％のポリエーテルブロックアミドを含み、前記ポリエー
    テルブロックアミドのショアＤ硬度が３０ないし４０で
    あることを特徴とする請求項３によるゴルフボール。
  6. 【請求項６】 以下の物理的特性と寸法特性を有するこ
    とを特徴とする請求項１ないし４のいずれか１によるゴ
