現在、リチウム−硫黄電池の電解液溶媒として最も多く使われているものは、1,3−ジオキソラン(DOL)及び1,2−ジメトキシエタン(DME)の混合溶媒である。DOL及びDMEの混合溶媒を使用する場合、硫黄利用率が向上されて電池容量の側面で優れた結果を示す。
i)リング構造内で一つの酸素を含む環状エーテル;
ii)下記化学式1で表されるグリコールエーテル;及び
iii)下記化学式2で表される線形エーテル;を含むことを特徴とする、リチウム−硫黄電池用電解液を提供する:

R3−O−(CH2CH2O)y−R4
(前記化学式1及び2において、
R1ないしR4は相互同一であるか、または異なるし、それぞれ独立にC1ないしC6のアルキル基、またはC6ないしC12のアリール基であり、またはC7ないしC13のアリールアルキル基で、
xは1ないし4の整数で、
yは0ないし4の整数で、
前記化学式1のエーテルは、前記化学式2のエーテルと相違する)
本発明によるリチウム−硫黄電池は、正極及び負極と、これらの間に介在される分離膜及び電解液を含み、電解液として本発明によるリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液を使用する。
本発明による正極は、正極集電体上に形成された正極活物質を含む。
前記正極集電体としては、技術分野において集電体として使用できるものであれば、いずれも可能であり、具体的に、優れた導電性を有する発泡アルミニウム、発泡ニッケルなどを使用することが好ましい。
本発明による負極は、負極集電体上に形成された負極活物質を含む。
前記負極集電体は、具体的に、銅、ステンレススチール、チタン、銀、パラジウム、ニッケル、これらの合金及びこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択されるものであってもよい。前記ステンレススチールは、カーボン、ニッケル、チタンまたは銀で表面処理されてもよく、前記合金としては、アルミニウム−カドミウム合金が使われてもよい。その他にも焼成炭素、導電材で表面処理された非伝導性高分子、または伝導性高分子などが使われてもよい。
正極と負極の間は、通常の分離膜が介在されてもよい。前記分離膜は、電極を物理的に分離する機能を有する物理的分離膜であって、通常の分離膜として使われるものであれば、特に制限されずに使用可能であり、特に電解液のイオン移動に対して低抵抗でありながら電解液の含湿能が優れたものが好ましい。
実施例1ないし2及び比較例1ないし2
(1)電解液の製造
下記表1の組成を有する混合溶媒に1.0Mの濃度でLiTFSI((CF3SO2)2NLi)を添加し、電解液100重量%を基準にして1重量%のLiNO3を添加して実施例1ないし2及び比較例1ないし2の非水系電解液を製造した。この時、使われた溶媒は次のようである。
THF:テトラヒドロフラン(Tetrahydrofuran)
DOL:1,3−ジオキソラン(1,3−Dioxolane)
DME:1,2−ジメトキシエタン(1,2−Dimethoxyethane)
EGEME:エチレングリコールエチルメチルエーテル(Ethyleneglycol ethylmethyl ether)
DPE:ジプロピルエーテル(Dipropyl ether)
硫黄65重量%、カーボンブラック25重量%、及びポリエチレンオキシド10重量%をアセトニトリルと混合して正極活物質スラリーを準備した。前記正極活物質スラリーをアルミニウム集電体上にコーティングし、これを乾燥して30×50mm2の大きさを有する、ローディング量5mAh/cm2の正極を製造した。また、厚さ150μmのリチウム金属を負極にした。
前記実施例1ないし2及び比較例1ないし2の各リチウム−硫黄電池に対して、下記条件で20サイクルを行いながら比放電容量(Specific Discharge Capacity)を測定し、その結果を図1に示した。
充電:律速0.1C、電圧2.8V、CC/CV(5% current cut at 0.1C)
放電:律速0.1C、電圧1.5V、CC
(1)電解液の製造
下記表2の組成を有する混合溶媒に1.0Mの濃度でLiTFSI((CF3SO2)2NLi)を添加し、電解液100重量%を基準にして1重量%のLiNO3を添加して実施例3ないし6及び比較例3の非水系電解液を製造した。この時、使われた溶媒は、次のとおりである。
THF:テトラヒドロフラン(Tetrahydrofuran)
DOL:1,3−ジオキソラン(1,3−Dioxolane)
DME:1,2−ジメトキシエタン(1,2−Dimethoxyethane)
EGEME:エチレングリコールエチルメチルエーテル(Ethyleneglycol ethylmethyl ether)
EGDEE:エチレングリコールジエチルエーテル(Ethyleneglycol diethyl ether)
DPE:ジプロピルエーテル(Dipropyl ether)
DIBE:ジイソブチルエーテル(Diisobutyl ether)
硫黄60重量%、カーボンブラック30重量%、及びポリエチレンオキシド10重量%をアセトニトリルと混合して正極活物質スラリーを準備した。前記正極活物質スラリーをアルミニウム集電体上にコーティングし、これを乾燥して30×50mm2の大きさを有する、ローディング量5mAh/cm2の正極を製造した。また、厚さ150μmのリチウム金属を負極にした。
前記実施例3ないし6及び比較例3の各リチウム−硫黄電池に対して下記条件で充電及び放電を繰り返しながら比放電容量(Specific Discharge Capacity)を測定し、その結果を図2に示した。
充電:律速0.1C、電圧2.8V、CC/CV(5% current cut at 0.1C)
放電:律速0.1C、電圧1.5V、CC
Claims (14)
- リチウム塩及び非水系溶媒を含み、
前記非水系溶媒は、
i)リング構造内で一つの酸素を含む環状エーテル;
ii)下記化学式1で表されるグリコールエーテル;及び
iii)下記化学式2で表される線形エーテル;を含むことを特徴とする、リチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。

(前記化学式1及び2において、
R1ないしR4は相互同一であるか、または異なるし、それぞれ独立にC1ないしC6のアルキル基、またはC6ないしC12のアリール基であり、またはC7ないしC13のアリールアルキル基で、
xは1ないし4の整数で、
yは0ないし4の整数で、
前記化学式1のエーテルは、前記化学式2のエーテルと相違する) - 前記環状エーテルは、C1ないしC4のアルキル基またはアルコキシ基で置換または非置換された5ないし7員環の環状エーテルであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記環状エーテルは、C1ないしC4のアルキル基またはアルコキシ基で置換または非置換されたテトラヒドロフランまたはテトラヒドロピランであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記環状エーテルは、テトラヒドロフラン、2−メチルテトラヒドロフラン、3−メチルテトラヒドロフラン、2,3−ジメチルテトラヒドロフラン、2,4−ジメチルテトラヒドロフラン、2,5−ジメチルテトラヒドロフラン、2−メトキシテトラヒドロフラン、3−メトキシテトラヒドロフラン、2,5−ジメトキシテトラヒドロフラン、2−エトキシテトラヒドロフラン、3−エトキシテトラヒドロフラン、テトラヒドロピラン、2−メチルテトラヒドロピラン、3−メチルテトラヒドロピラン、及び4−メチルテトラヒドロピランからなる群から選択される1種であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記グリコールエーテルは、1,2−ジメトキシエタン、エチレングリコールエチルメチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコールジメチルエーテル、トリエチレングリコールジメチルエーテル、及びテトラエチレングリコールジメチルエーテルからなる群から選択される1種であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記線形エーテルは、エチレングリコールエチルメチルエーテル、エチレングリコールジエチルエーテル、ジプロピルエーテル、ジイソプロピルエーテル、ジブチルエーテル、及びジイソブチルエーテルからなる群から選択される1種であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記環状エーテルは、非水系溶媒総重量の10ないし50体積%で含まれることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記グリコールエーテル及び線形エーテルは、1:3ないし3:1の体積比で含まれることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記リチウム塩は、LiCl、LiBr、LiI、LiClO4、LiBF4、LiB10Cl10、LiPF6、LiCF3SO3、LiCF3CO2、LiC4BO8、LiAsF6、LiSbF6、LiAlCl4、CH3SO3Li、CF3SO3Li、(CF3SO2)2NLi、(C2F5SO2)2NLi、(SO2F)2NLi、(CF3SO2)3CLi、クロロボランリチウム、低級脂肪族カルボン酸リチウム、4フェニルホウ酸リチウム、リチウムイミド及びこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択された1種を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記リチウム塩は、0.1ないし4.0Mの濃度で含まれることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記電解液は、分子内でN−O結合を有する添加物をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記添加物は、硝酸リチウム、硝酸カリウム、硝酸セシウム、硝酸バリウム、硝酸アンモニウム、亜硝酸リチウム、亜硝酸カリウム、亜硝酸セシウム、亜硝酸アンモニウム、メチルニトラート、ジアルキルイミダゾリウムニトラート、グアニジンニトラート、イミダゾリウムニトラート、ピリジニウムニトラート、エチルニトラート、プロピルニトラート、ブチルニトラート、ペンチルニトラート、オクチルニトラート、ニトロメタン、ニトロプロパン、ニトロブタン、ニトロベンゼン、ジニトロベンゼン、ニトロピリジン、ジニトロピリジン、ニトロトルエン、ジニトロトルエン、ピリジンN−オキシド、アルキルピリジンN−オキシド、及びテトラメチルピペリジニルオキシルからなる群から選択される1種以上であることを特徴とする請求項11に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 前記添加物は、電解液100重量%に対して0.01ないし10重量%で含まれることを特徴とする請求項11に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池用電解液。
- 請求項1ないし13のいずれか一項に記載の電解液を含むリチウム−硫黄電池。
