Abstract
Description
[01]ここに記載された発明は、NASAの協力契約の下で研究を行う中で合衆国政府の従業員によって成され、パブリック・ロー96-517(米国特許法第202条)の規定に従うものであり、合衆国政府によって(または合衆国政府のために)、政府の目的で、発明についての(または発明に対する)特許権使用料を何ら支払うことなく製造および使用することができる。米国特許法第202条に従って、協力契約の受領者は所有権を保持することを選択した。
最初の工程において、Agのような触媒のナノ粒子をグラフェンの表面上に堆積し、それによりAgナノ粒子で修飾したグラフェン(Ag-G)を得る。これは、溶媒を用いない高度に大規模化が可能な堆積プロセスを用いて達成されるが、このプロセスは支持基材としての多層カーボンナノチューブ(MWNT)ですでに確立されたものである。本方法においては、酢酸銀のような金属塩とグラフェンを望ましい比率で固体状で混合し、続いて、窒素雰囲気中で熱処理に供する。高温(350℃)の下で、酢酸銀はAg金属にナノ粒子の形で熱分解され、このとき支持基材としてグラフェンが存在し、そしてCO2、COのような揮発性の副生物と水を伴う。図1aと1bにおける透過型電子顕微鏡(TEM)の画像で示すように、金属のAgナノ粒子がグラフェンの表面上に良好に分布する。やはり顕微鏡検査の結果によって示されるように、グラフェンの表面は反応後も損なわれておらず、出発グラフェンのサンプルのものと同様に、時折は欠陥としわが存在する。
この工程において、金属酸化物または金属ナノ粒子で修飾したグラフェンのサンプルを開口管炉の中で加熱することによって、制御された空気酸化に供する。例えば、図2aに示すように、(Ag-G)10のサンプルを300℃で3時間処理した後、最初の損なわれていない(すなわち、穴の無い)グラフェンの表面にかなりの数の穴が現れた。これらの穴の大部分は少なくとも一つのAgナノ粒子と関連している。幾つかの穴は溝としても現れたが、これらは明らかに所定の条件の下での付着したAgナノ粒子の方向性の移動と関連していて(図2b)、おそらくはエッチングによって誘起された移動のためである(以下をさらに参照されたい)。それにもかかわらず、比較的大きなサイズのAgナノ粒子は典型的に大きな直径の穴(または幅の大きな溝)を生じさせる。各々の穴または溝は一つだけのAgナノ粒子から生じたのではないかもしれない。というのは、複数の隣接するAgナノ粒子から生じた穴または溝は併合して、枝分れした溝(図2c)または単一の穴(図2d)を形成する場合があるからである。工程Iにおいて窒素の雰囲気が用いられる手順は工程IIについては対照の反応とみなすことができ、工程IIにおいては同じAg-G材料が空気中で加熱される。従って、上の観察結果は明らかに、Agナノ粒子が、それらと接触するグラフェンの炭素原子の酸化を触媒し、一方、貴金属のナノ粒子と結びつかない炭素はグラフェンの構造の中で影響を受けないままになる、ということを示している。
Ag触媒を除去するために、工程IIからの部分的に酸化したAg-Gサンプル(300℃の酸化温度)を、希釈した(2.6Mの)硝酸を用いて環流する。次いで、固形分を水で十分に洗浄し、そして乾燥する。このプロセスにおいて、硝酸が金属AgをAg+(すなわち、AgNO3)に酸化するので、触媒Agナノ粒子はサンプルから完全に除去される。Ag塩は水性分散液に可溶性であり、繰返し洗浄することによって効果的に除去される。最終的な生成物の顕微鏡による分析によって、Agナノ粒子は見いだされない。加えて、これらのサンプルをXPSとXRDの両方を用いて分析するとAgの信号が無いことにより、金属が完全に除去されたことが確認される。
[89]材料
酢酸銀(I)(99%)をAldrich Chemical Companyから購入した。グラフェンの粉末(Vor-X;グレード:還元070;ロット:BK-77x)をVorbeck Materialsから得た。直径の範囲が約20〜150nmのMWNT(バッチ#UK115b)をケンタッキー大学から購入した。ウルテム(登録商標)1000をGE Plasticsから得た。全ての材料と化学物質を、受け入れたままの状態で使用した。
二次電子(SE)および透過電子(TE)のそれぞれのモードの下でHitachi S-5200電界放出SEM装置を用いてSEM画像とTEM画像を得た。JEOL 2000電界放出TEM装置において電子回折パターンとそれに対応するTEM画像を得た。放射線源(λ=1.5418Å)としてCuKαを用いてSiemens D5000X線回折計においてXRD分析を行った。ThermoFisher ESCAlab 250X線光電子分光計においてXPSスペクトルを得た。532nmと785nmの波長を有する励起レーザーを備えたThermo-Nicolet-Almega分散型ラマン分光計においてラマンスペクトルを得た。Quantachrome Nova 2200e表面積および細孔サイズ分析装置においてBET表面積の測定を行った。Seiko TG/DTA 220 (SSC/5200) 装置において熱重量分析(TGA)と示差熱重量分析(DTG)のトレースを得た。機械的な試験のためにポリマーリボンの試験片を約5cm×5mmのストリップに切り出し、それらの試験を20mmのゲージ長さと10mm/分のクロスヘッド速度においてInstron 5848マイクロ試験機において少なくとも5個の試験片を用いて室温で行った。
手順は他で報告されたAgナノ粒子で修飾したMWNTについてのものと同様であった。典型的な反応において、望ましい比率(1または10モル%のAg(対C)、9または47重量%に相当)の入手したままのグラフェン粉末(100mg)と酢酸銀の粉末を、SPEX CertiPrep 8000D高エネルギーシェーカーミルを備えたジルコニアバイアル-ボールセット(SPEX CertiPrep、約20cm3の混合装填量、2ボール)を用いて5分にわたって機械的に混合した。次いで、固体の混合物を適当な容器(例えば、アルミニウム皿またはガラスビーカー)に移し、窒素オーブン(Blue M Electric A-5245-Q不活性ガスオーブン、窒素の流量:約60〜80cm3/分)の中で350℃になるまで1時間加熱し、そして等温で3時間保持した。次いで、生成物を (Ag-G)1または (Ag-G)10のサンプルとして捕集した(下付きの数字はパーセントでのAg対Cのモル比に相当する)。
典型的な反応において、工程IからのAg-Gのサンプル(100mg)を、空気中で開口管炉または空気オーブンを用いて所定の温度(250〜400℃)まで1時間にわたって加熱し、そして等温で3時間保持した。
典型的な反応において、空気酸化したAg-Gのサンプル(50mg)を希釈硝酸(2.6M、30mL)の中で2時間にわたって環流し、それによりAgを除去した。冷却した後、スラリーを遠心分離し、そして上澄みを捨てた。次いで、固形分を10回以上まで再分散と遠心分離のサイクルを行う中で水で繰返し洗浄し、これを上澄みが中性(pH>6)になるまで行った。次いで、固形分を注意深く乾燥して、最終的なhG製品を得た。炭素の重量についての典型的な全体の収率は、hG1とhG10のサンプルについてそれぞれ約80%と68%であった(300℃で3時間の空気酸化)。
ナノ複合材料にするための後続の溶融加工を行うために、1重量%のグラフェンのサンプルおよびhGのサンプルと混合するためのポリマーマトリックスとしてウルテムを用いた。用いた混合装置は、RS7500駆動/データ収集装置(Rheometer Services)に装着したローラーブレード(C.W. ブラベンダー)を備えた30mLハーフサイズ混合器であった。パージガスを用いずに、各々のサンプルを325℃および25rpmで150分にわたって処理した。次いで、混合物を、メッシュスクリーン(ろ過網)(穴の直径:約4.76mm)を備えた細断機または粉砕機に通した。リボンを製作するために、素材としてのウルテムのサンプルと1重量%のグラフェンまたはhGの充填材を含むナノ複合材料の両者について、溶融加工した混合物を190℃のローター温度と350℃のヘッド(0.38mm×19.1mm)温度において実験室用混合押出し機(Dynisco LME)に通して押出した。
Claims (24)
- 穴の多い炭素同素体を形成するための方法であって、以下の各工程:
固体状の炭素同素体を用意すること;
炭素同素体のシートの表面に炭素酸化触媒のナノ粒子を容易で制御可能かつ溶媒を用いないプロセスで堆積させ、それにより炭素酸化触媒−炭素同素体物質を得ること;
得られた炭素酸化触媒−炭素同素体物質を空気中で熱処理に供すること;
炭素酸化触媒のナノ粒子と接触している炭素を選択的に酸化してガス状の副生物とすること;および
炭素酸化触媒のナノ粒子を除去し、それにより炭素同素体の表面に穴が残るようにすること;
を含む前記方法。 - 炭素の同素体は、グラフェン、酸化グラフェン、還元した酸化グラフェン、熱剥離したグラフェン、グラフェンナノリボン、黒鉛、剥離した黒鉛、膨張黒鉛、単層カーボンナノチューブ、二層カーボンナノチューブ、多層カーボンナノチューブ、カーボンナノファイバー、カーボンファイバー、カーボンブラック、非晶質カーボン、およびフラーレンからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 炭素酸化触媒は遷移金属、希土類金属、酸化物、およびこれらの組合せからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 炭素酸化触
媒はFe、Co、Ni、Ru、Rh、Pd、Os、Ir、Pt、Cu、AgおよびAuからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の方法。 - 炭素酸化触媒のナノ粒子−炭素同素体は金属塩の先駆物質と炭素同素体の混合物を高温で加熱することによって調製され、このとき、金属塩の先駆物質は不活性雰囲気中で分解される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 高温は100℃から500℃までの間である、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 加熱は、熱的なもの、電気的なもの、機械化学的なもの、電気化学的なもの、電子衝撃、イオン衝撃、電磁気的なもの、およびこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される形でのエネルギーの入力によって行われる、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 高温は350℃である、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 金属塩の先駆物質は有機基を伴う化合物である、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 金属塩の先駆物質は無機基を伴う化合物である、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 金属塩の先駆物質は金属酢酸塩、金属アセチルアセトネート、金属硝酸塩、金属ハロゲン化物、およびこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 炭素酸化触媒のナノ粒子は0.1モル%と20モル%の間の濃度にある、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 酸化の工程は150℃と500℃の間の温度で行われる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 炭素酸化触媒のナノ粒子は、周囲温度と酸を環流させる温度の間の温度において酸の中の処理によって除去される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 酸は硝酸、塩酸、硫酸、酢酸、クロロスルホン酸、リン酸およびこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項13に記載の方法。
- 穴の多いグラフェンを形成するための方法であって、以下の各工程:
グラフェンのシートを用意すること;
グラフェンのシートの表面にAgナノ粒子を容易で制御可能かつ溶媒を用いないプロセスで堆積させ、それによりAg-G材料を得ること;
得られたAg-G材料を空気中で熱処理に供すること;
Agナノ粒子と接触している黒鉛炭素を選択的に酸化してガス状の副生物とすること;および
Agナノ粒子を除去し、それによりグラフェンのシートの表面に穴が残るようにすること;
を含む前記方法。 - 熱処理は350℃の温度において行われる、請求項16に記載の方法。
- Agナノ粒子は金属銀の形になっている、請求項16に記載の方法。
- 酸化工程は250℃と400℃の間の温度において行われる、請求項16に記載の方法。
- 酸化工程は300℃の温度において行われる、請求項16に記載の方法。
- 金属銀は0.1モル%と20モル%の間の濃度にある、請求項18に記載の方法。
- Agナノ粒子は、周囲温度と酸を環流させる温度の間の温度において希釈硝酸の中の処理によって除去される、請求項16に記載の方法。
