Abstract
Description
Claims (29)
- 発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)モノフィラメントを製造する方法であって、前記方法は、
PTFE粉末を炭化水素溶剤と混合することによって第1のペーストを形成する工程であって、前記第1のペーストは約16重量%未満の炭化水素溶剤を含む、という工程と、
前記第1のペーストを第1の持続時間にわたって第1の温度に暴露することによって、前記第1のペーストを硬化させる工程と、
前記第1のペーストを型内に圧入することによって、押し出しプレフォームを形成する工程と、
前記第1のペーストをダイ中に通して押し出し成形することによって、生のモノフィラメントを形成する工程と、
前記生のモノフィラメントを第2の持続時間にわたって第2の温度に暴露することによって、前記生のモノフィラメントを発泡させる工程であって、前記第2の持続時間は前記第1の持続時間後に生じる、という工程と、
前記生のモノフィラメントを実質的に当該生のモノフィラメントの長手方向軸線に沿って延伸させる工程であって、前記生のモノフィラメントの延伸は前記生のモノフィラメントの発泡後に生じる、という工程と、
前記生のモノフィラメントの延伸後に、前記生のモノフィラメントを焼結する工程と、
を備えたことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記第1のペーストを形成する工程は、前記PTFE粉末と前記炭化水素溶剤との混合物を実質的に一定の温度に維持する工程を含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記実質的に一定の温度は、約50°F(10℃)〜約60°F(15.6℃)である、請求項2記載の方法。
- 前記第1の温度は、約68°F(20℃)〜約78°F(25.6℃)である、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記第1の持続時間は、約24時間を超える、請求項4記載の方法。
- 前記押し出しプレフォームは、前記第1の持続時間中、当該押し出しプレフォームの自由表面に作用する機械的力から実質的にフリーである、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記押し出しプレフォームを形成する工程は、前記第1のペーストに約150psi〜約190psiの圧力を加える工程を含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記押し出しプレフォームを形成する工程は、
第2のペーストを形成する工程と、
前記型内に仕切りを設ける工程と、
前記型内に前記第2のペーストを設けて前記第2のペーストが前記仕切りの第1の側と接触関係をなすようにする工程と、
を含み、
前記仕切りの前記第1の側は、前記第1のペーストと接触状態をなす前記仕切りの第2の側と反対側に位置している、請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記第1のペーストの色は、前記第2のペーストの色とは異なっている、請求項8記載の方法。
- 前記第2の温度は、約520°F(271.1℃)〜約800°F(426.7℃)までの範囲にある、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記生のモノフィラメントを発泡させる工程は、前記生のモノフィラメントを前記第2の温度の環境に暴露する工程を含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記第2の持続時間は、約0.1〜約0.5秒である、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記生のモノフィラメントを発泡させる工程と前記生のモノフィラメントを延伸させる工程とは、同時に実施される、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記生のモノフィラメントを焼結する工程は、前記生のモノフィラメントを第3の持続時間にわたって約700°F(371.1℃)よりも高い温度に暴露する工程を含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記生のモノフィラメントを形成する工程は、前記第1のペーストに約200psi〜約400psiの圧力を加える工程を含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記生のモノフィラメントを形成する工程は、前記生のモノフィラメントの一端部を前記生のモノフィラメントの長手方向軸線回りに回転させる工程を含む、請求項8記載の方法。
- 前記発泡工程、前記延伸工程、及び、前記焼結工程は、連続プロセスで実施される、請求項1記載の方法。
- モノフィラメントであって、
当該モノフィラメントの第1の長手方向インターフェースに沿って第2のPTFE材料と接触状態にある第1のPTFE材料を含む複数種類の発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)材料を有し、
前記第1のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第1の外面を規定し、
前記第2のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第2の外面を規定し、
前記第1のPTFE材料の色は、前記第2のPTFE材料の色とは異なっている
ことを特徴とするモノフィラメント。 - 当該モノフィラメントは、約100,000psi(690MPa)以上の引張り強度、及び、約0.8g/cc〜約1.5g/ccの密度、を有する、請求項18記載のモノフィラメント。
- 前記複数種類の発泡PTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第2の長手方向インターフェースに沿って前記第2のPTFE材料と接触状態にある第3のPTFE材料を含み、
前記第3のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第3の外面を規定し、
前記第3のPTFE材料の色は、当該第1のPTFE材料の色及び前記第2のPTFE材料の色とは異なっている、請求項18記載のモノフィラメント。 - 前記第3のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第3の長手方向インターフェースに沿って前記第1のPTFE材料と接触状態にある、請求項20記載のモノフィラメント。
- 当該モノフィラメントは、約100,000psi(690MPa)以上の引張り強度、及び、約0.8g/cc〜約1.5g/ccの密度を有する、請求項20記載のモノフィラメント。
- 当該モノフィラメントの第3の長手方向インターフェースに沿って前記第3のPTFE材料と接触状態にある第4のPTFE材料を更に備え、
前記第4のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第4の外面を規定し、
前記第4のPTFE材料の色は、前記第1のPTFE材料の色、前記第2のPTFE材料の色、及び、前記第3のPTFE材料の色とは異なっている、請求項18記載のモノフィラメント。 - 前記第4のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第4の長手方向インターフェースに沿って前記第1のPTFE材料と接触状態にある、請求項23記載のモノフィラメント。
- 前記第1のPTFE材料は、当該モノフィラメントの第2の長手方向インターフェースに沿って前記第2のPTFE材料と接触状態にある、請求項18記載のモノフィラメント。
- 当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の長手方向インターフェースは、当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の外面から当該モノフィラメントの断面寸法の1/4以上の半径方向深さまで延びている、請求項18記載のモノフィラメント。
- 当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の長手方向インターフェースは、当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の外面から当該モノフィラメントのほぼ長手方向軸線まで延びている、請求項26記載のモノフィラメント。
- 当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の長手方向インターフェースは、当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の外面から当該モノフィラメントの前記断面寸法の約1/2の半径方向深さまで延びている、請求項27記載のモノフィラメント。
- 当該モノフィラメントの前記第1の長手方向インターフェースは、当該モノフィラメントの断面全体を半径方向に横切って延びている、請求項28記載のモノフィラメント。
