Abstract
Description
a)Eu、Gd、Nd、またはそれらの混合物である希土類元素を有する1つ以上の前駆体化合物とセラミック組成物中に存在する元素との混合物を形成することと、
b)混合物を多孔性グリーン形状物に成形することと、
c)ステップ(b)の前記多孔性グリーン形状物を、前記セラミック粒子から生じるセラミック粒体が、希土類元素および酸素を含有するセラミック粒界相によって共に結合されるような温度に加熱することと、を含む。
多孔性セラミック組成物は、セラミック粒体から成る。セラミック粒体は、アルカリ金属、アルカリ土類金属、またはイットリウムを除く他の遷移金属を含有しない任意の有用なセラミックであり得る。例示的なセラミックとしては、アルミノケイ酸塩(例えば、ムライト)、炭化物、窒化物、炭窒化物、ケイ酸塩、およびアルミン酸塩が挙げられる。セラミック粒体は、望ましくは、ムライト、炭化ケイ素、または窒化ケイ素である。
セラミック組成物を作製する際には、特定のセラミック組成物のための前駆体化合物を混合して、混合物を形成する。実例として、ムライト、より具体的には針状ムライトを作製するときには、アルミニウム、ケイ素、酸素、およびEu、Gd、Ndである1つ以上の希土類を含有する前駆体材料を混合して、混合物を形成する。使用され得る前駆体化合物は、本発明の多孔性セラミック組成物を実現させ、例えば、米国特許第5,194,154号、同第5,198,007号、同第5,173,349号、同第4,911,902号、同第5,252,272号、同第4,948,766号、および同第4,910,172号に記載されており、それぞれ、参照により本明細書に組み込まれる。上述のような純金属を選択することが望ましいことを理解されたい。
実施例1
153.1グラムのCKA10κアルミナ(Ceramiques Technique et Industrielles(CTI),Salindres,Franceから入手可能)、44.92グラムのMin−u−sil5シリカ(U.S.Silica Company,Berkley Springs,West Virgina,U.S.A.から入手可能)、1.982グラムの酸化ユウロピウム(99.99%Strem Chemicals U.S.A.)、7.0グラムのA4M METHOCEL(商標)セルロースエーテル(The Dow Chemical Company,Midland,MIから入手可能)、および22.0グラムのA625グラファイト粉末(Cummings−Moore Corporation,Detroit,Michigan,U.S.A)を、小型高速粉砕機/混合機中で1分間混合し、全ての乾燥構成要素を均一に混合して、乾燥混合物を形成した。アルミナ、シリカ、および酸化ユウロピウムといった金属不純物を、表1に示す。混合物は、混合物の約0.2重量%未満の量の他の金属(すなわち、上述のアルカリ、アルカリ土類、および遷移金属)を有した。
実施例1と同じ方法でバーを作製し、試験したが、但し表2および3で示される乾燥混合物を形成するために使用した量、およびペーストを作製するために使用した水は除く。加えて、ムライトを作製するために使用した特定の温度および圧力、ならびに処理したバーおよび未処理のバーの強度も、表2および3に示す。これらの実施例のバーも、実施例1について説明されるような結晶質粒界相を有した。これらの実施例のそれぞれは、実施例1に記載されるEDSの検出限界未満の量で、粒界相中に他の金属(添加されたRE金属以外)の量を有した。
Claims (20)
- シリカ、Eu、Gd、Nd、またはそれらの混合物である希土類元素、および酸素、ならびに随意にイットリウムから成る粒界相によって共に結合されるセラミック粒体を含有する多孔性セラミック組成物であって、前記粒界相が、前記粒界相の多くても2重量%である量のアルカリ、アルカリ土類金属、およびイットリウム以外の遷移金属を有する、多孔性セラミック組成物。
- 前記セラミック粒体が、ムライト、SiC、または窒化ケイ素粒体である、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記希土類金属がEuである、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記粒界相が、非晶質であり、均一化学組成を有する、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記粒界相が、前記粒界相中に存在する希土類の量より少ない重量による量のイットリウムから成る、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記粒界相がまた、13族元素から成る、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記アルカリ、アルカリ土類金属、および他の遷移金属の量が、前記粒界相の多くても1重量%である、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 請求項1に記載の組成物が、860℃に加熱され、前記粒界相の少なくとも一部分をγ−アルミナ粒子と接触させながら、湿潤空気下で100時間保持された後に、その強度の少なくとも80%を維持する、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記希土類元素が、前記粒界相の10重量%〜60重量%の量で前記粒界相中に存在する、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 請求項1〜9のいずれか1項に記載の組成物から成る粒子フィルタ。
- 多孔性セラミック組成物を調製するための方法であって、
a)Eu、Gd、Nd、またはそれらの混合物である希土類元素を有する1つ以上の前駆体化合物とセラミック組成物中に存在する元素との混合物を形成することと、
b)前記混合物を多孔性グリーン形状物に成形することと、
c)ステップ(b)の前記多孔性グリーン形状物を、前記セラミック粒子から生じるセラミック粒体が、前記希土類元素および酸素を含有するセラミック粒界相によって共に結合され、前記多孔性セラミック組成物を形成するような温度に加熱することと、を含む、方法。 - 前記混合物が、前記前駆体混合物の重量による総量の多くても0.5重量%である量のアルカリ金属、アルカリ土類金属、およびイットリウム以外の遷移金属を有し、希土類金属を含まない、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記セラミック粒体が、針状ムライトである、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記希土類元素を有する前記前駆体化合物が、酸化物、酢酸塩、炭酸塩、または硝酸塩である、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記混合物が、イットリウムから成る前駆体化合物からさらになる、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記希土類がEuである、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記前駆体化合物が、3〜4.2を超えるAl/Siのモル比を有する、請求項13に記載の方法。
- 前記粒界相が非晶質である、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記共に結合したセラミック粒体を、前記非晶質粒界相の相分離を妨げるような速度である、前記粒界相のガラス転移温度を介する冷却速度で冷却することをさらに含む、請求項18に記載の方法。
- 前記冷却の速度が少なくとも6℃/分である、請求項18に記載の方法。
