Abstract
【解決手段】電解質膜をロールトゥロール方式にて一定速度で連続して走行させつつ、その電解質膜の表面に塗工ノズルから触媒インクを間欠塗工する。塗工の間欠時に塗工ノズルの先端に触媒インクの液溜まりを形成する。塗工の開始時には、塗工ノズルの先端と電解質膜の表面との間隔が塗工ギャップTGとは異なる接触ギャップSGとなるように塗工ノズルが移動して液溜まりを塗工領域の塗工開始端に接触させることにより、塗工領域に過不足無く触媒インクを塗工する。接触ギャップSGは電解質膜の表面に形成する塗膜の膜厚が厚いほど大きくなり、その膜厚が所定値よりも厚くなると塗工ギャップTGよりも大きくなる。

Claims (14)
- 第1ローラから送り出された基材を第2ローラで巻き取ることによって当該基材を連続走行させつつ、当該基材に塗工液を間欠的に塗工する間欠塗工方法であって、
先端に塗工液の液溜まりを形成したスリットノズルをバックアップローラによって支持された前記基材に近接させ、前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔を前記液溜まりが前記基材の表面に接触する第1の間隔とする接触工程と、
前記液溜まりが前記基材の表面に接触した後、前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔が第1の間隔とは異なる第2の間隔となるように前記スリットノズルを移動させる移動工程と、
前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔を第2の間隔に維持しつつ、前記スリットノズルから前記基材の表面に塗工液を塗工する塗工工程と、
を備えることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 請求項1記載の間欠塗工方法において、
前記塗工工程にて前記基材の表面に形成される塗膜の膜厚が厚いほど前記接触工程での第1の間隔が大きくなることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 請求項2記載の間欠塗工方法において、
前記塗工工程にて前記基材の表面に形成される塗膜の膜厚が所定値よりも厚くなると第1の間隔が第2の間隔よりも大きくなることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 請求項1記載の間欠塗工方法において、
塗工液の表面張力が低いほど前記接触工程での第1の間隔が大きくなることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 請求項4記載の間欠塗工方法において、
塗工液の表面張力が所定値よりも低くなると第1の間隔が第2の間隔よりも大きくなることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 請求項1から請求項5のいずれかに記載の間欠塗工方法において、
前記塗工工程の終了時には、前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔が第2の間隔よりも小さい第3の間隔となるように前記スリットノズルを移動させることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 請求項1から請求項6のいずれかに記載の間欠塗工方法において、
前記基材は、燃料電池の電解質膜であり、
前記塗工液は、白金または白金合金の触媒粒子を含有する触媒インクであることを特徴とする間欠塗工方法。 - 第1ローラから送り出された基材を第2ローラで巻き取ることによって当該基材を連続走行させつつ、当該基材に塗工液を間欠的に塗工する間欠塗工装置であって、
走行する前記基材を支持するバックアップローラと、
前記バックアップローラによって支持された前記基材に塗工液を塗工するスリットノズルと、
前記バックアップローラに対して近接または離間するように前記スリットノズルを移動させる駆動手段と、
前記駆動手段を制御する制御手段と、
を備え、
前記制御手段は、先端に塗工液の液溜まりを形成した前記スリットノズルが前記バックアップローラによって支持された前記基材に近接し、前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔が前記液溜まりが前記基材の表面に接触する第1の間隔に前記スリットノズルが移動するとともに、前記液溜まりが前記基材の表面に接触した後、前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔が第1の間隔とは異なる第2の間隔に前記スリットノズルが移動して基材の表面に塗工液を塗工するように前記駆動手段を制御することを特徴とする間欠塗工装置。 - 請求項8記載の間欠塗工装置において、
前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔を第2の間隔に維持しつつ、前記スリットノズルから塗工液を塗工して前記基材の表面に形成する塗膜の膜厚が厚いほど第1の間隔が大きくなることを特徴とする間欠塗工装置。 - 請求項9記載の間欠塗工装置において、
前記基材の表面に形成される塗膜の膜厚が所定値よりも厚くなると第1の間隔が第2の間隔よりも大きくなることを特徴とする間欠塗工装置。 - 請求項8記載の間欠塗工装置において、

前記スリットノズルからの塗工を終了するときには、前記制御手段は、前記スリットノズルの前記先端と前記基材の表面との間隔が第2の間隔よりも小さい第3の間隔に前記スリットノズルが移動するように前記駆動手段を制御することを特徴とする間欠塗工装置。 - 請求項8から請求項13のいずれかに記載の間欠塗工装置において、
前記基材は、燃料電池の電解質膜であり、
前記塗工液は、白金または白金合金の触媒粒子を含有する触媒インクであることを特徴とする間欠塗工装置。
