Abstract
【解決手段】セラミックハニカム構造体は、セラミック材料を水、押出及び成形助剤を含む様々な炭素質材料と混合して作成した可塑化バッチの押出しにより、ハニカム形状のセラミック未焼成体に成形し、焼成炉内で既定の温度で焼成することにより製造されるが、焼成における炭素質材料の分解は多量の熱を放出する酸化すなわち発熱反応であり、成形品の内側部分と外側部分との間にかなりの温度差を生じさせる。この温度差は、成形品に亀裂を発生させ得る応力を発生する。そこで、炭素質材料の放出を開始し、十分達成するのに十分な温度及び時間をもって焼成雰囲気内でセラミックハニカム構造未焼成体を焼成し、同時に炭素質材料が焼成雰囲気内で反応する前に少なくともその一部を除去する工程を含むことで、熱変形及び熱誘起亀裂のない焼成セラミックハニカム構造体を得ることができる。

Claims (6)
- 焼成ハニカム体にすることができる、ある量の炭素質材料を含む、既定量の原材料を含有するセラミックハニカム構造未焼成体をキルン内で焼成する方法において:
前記セラミックハニカム構造未焼成体から前記炭素質材料の放出を開始させかつ放出を十分達成するのに十分な温度及び時間をもって焼成雰囲気内で前記ハニカム構造未焼成体を焼成し、同時に前記炭素質材料が前記焼成雰囲気内で反応する前に少なくともその一部を除去する工程;
を含むことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記キルン内の前記炭素質材料が放出される位置の近くで前記炭素質材料が除去されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記セラミックハニカム構造未焼成体の焼成ハニカム体への転化を開始させかつ転化を十分達成するのに十分な時間及び温度をもってさらに加熱する工程を含むことを特徴とする請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記炭素質材料が600℃より低い揮発、分解または蒸発温度を有する液体または固体の炭化水素材料を含むことを特徴とする請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記炭素質材料が高分子結合剤、炭化水素油またはワックス結合剤またはグラファイトを含むことを特徴とする請求項4記載の方法。
- 焼結可能な前記原材料がカオリンクレイ、タルク、アルミナ及びその他のコージェライト形成材料の混合物であって、前記原材料のそれぞれが、前記混合物内の他の原材料と組み合わされて、その主結晶相がコージェライトである焼成ハニカム体にすることができる効果的な量で含まれることを特徴とする請求項1記載の方法。
