透光性基板の上に下部電極、発光層、上部電極、封止部材を少なくとも有する有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子において、
前記基板上に絶縁性の柱状凸部を点在させて形成し、前記封止部材下面と前記上部電極上面を非接触状態に保持することを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
前記下部電極は、透明電極であり、前記柱状凸部が、該透明電極上に該透明電極の発光部分に相当する部位の面積の0.5%以上10%以下を覆うように形成されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
前記基板がガラスであり、前記封止部材が樹脂フィルムであることを特徴とする請求項1又は2記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。

前記基板上に前記下部電極をパターン状に形成する工程と、
前記下部電極付基板上に感光性樹脂組成物層を塗布する工程と、

該マスクの上方から紫外線を露光して前記感光性樹脂組成物を光硬化する工程と、

注入層は必要に応じて設け、電子注入層と正孔注入層があり、上記のごとく陽極と発光層または正孔輸送層の間、及び、陰極と発光層または電子輸送層との間に存在させてもよい。
本発明に係る発光層は、電極または電子輸送層、正孔輸送層から注入されてくる電子および正孔が再結合して発光する層であり、発光する部分は発光層の層内であっても発光層と隣接層との界面であっても良い。
本発明の白色発光有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子において、ホスト化合物としては、有機化合物または錯体であることが好ましく、本発明においては、好ましくは蛍光極大波長が415nm以下である。ホスト化合物の極大波長を415nm以下にすることにより可視光、前記ドーパントの発光において、特にBGR発光が可能となる。
次にドーパントについて述べる。
正孔輸送層とは正孔を輸送する機能を有する材料からなり、広い意味で正孔注入層、電子阻止層も正孔輸送層に含まれる。正孔輸送層は単層もしくは複数層設けることができる。
電子輸送層とは電子を輸送する機能を有する材料からなり、広い意味で電子注入層、正孔阻止層も電子輸送層に含まれる。電子輸送層は単層もしくは複数層設けることができる。
《ITOの成膜と基板の洗浄》
市販の0.7mm厚みのガラス基板上に、酸化インジウムスズ(ITO)の透明電極をスパッタにより100nmの厚みとなるように形成した。このときITOがスパッタされない部分を、シャドーマスクを用いて同時に形成し、通電時の電極の形状をガラス基板上に作成した。
洗浄済みのITOパターン付きのガラス基板上に、下記感光性樹脂組成物Aをスピンコートし、乾燥厚みが2.7μmとなるように回転数および溶剤量を制御して、塗布を行なった。

基板2を純水、5%界面活性剤水溶液、アンモニア性過酸化水素水、イソプロピルアルコールで逐次洗浄し、清浄な窒素雰囲気下で乾燥させた後、真空蒸着法により、該基板上に、正孔輸送材料NPDを40nm成膜し、次いで発光層用ホスト材料CBPと発光層用ドーパント材料Ir(ppy)3(例示Ir−1)を重量比で95対5となるように制御しながら、30nm共蒸着により成膜し、さらに正孔阻止材料BAlqを10nm、電子輸送材料Alq3を40nm、この順に成膜し、その上にLiFを0.5nm、およびアルミニウムを150nm蒸着して積層型素子を形成した。
実施例1において、発光素子を、正孔輸送材料NPDを40nm成膜し、次いで青色発光層用ホスト材料CDBPと発光層用ドーパント材料FIr(pic)を重量比で95対5となるように制御しながら、20nm共蒸着により成膜し、さらに中間層としてBAlqを3nm、赤色発光層用ホスト材料CDBPと発光層用ドーパント材料BtpIr(acac)を重量比で95対5となるように制御しながら、5nm共蒸着し、電子輸送材料BAlqを30nm、この順に成膜して、この上にLiFを0.5nm、およびアルミニウムを150nm蒸着して白色化した積層型素子を形成した。
《プラスチック基板上へのITOの成膜と基板の洗浄》
市販の0.2mm厚みのポリエーテルスルホン(PES)基板上に、酸化インジウムスズ(ITO)の透明電極をスパッタにより100nmの厚みとなるように形成した。このときITOがスパッタされない部分を、シャドーマスクを用いて同時に形成し、通電時の電極の形状をPES基板上に作成した。このITOパターン付きのPES基板を純水、5%界面活性剤水溶液、アンモニア性過酸化水素水、イソプロピルアルコールで逐次洗浄し、清浄な窒素雰囲気下で乾燥させた。これを基板3とする。
洗浄済みのITOパターン付きのPES基板上に、実施例1で用いた感光性樹脂組成物Aをスピンコートし、乾燥厚みが2.7μとなるように回転数および溶剤量を制御して、塗布を行なった後、100℃で15分、清浄な雰囲気の乾燥炉で熱処理を行なった。
基板4を用いて、4x10−5Pa以下の圧力下に維持し、実施例1と同様に積層型素子を形成した。
基板3を用い、実施例2と同様の発光層構成で白色りん光有機EL素子を形成した。さらにこの素子の外側に発光部分と接触しないように1mm幅で基板上に紫外線硬化性接着剤を線上に塗布を行い、窒素雰囲気下で100μmのポリエーテルスルホン(PES)製の封止用シートを貼り合わせた。
実施例1において、柱状凸部の形成を行なわなかった以外は、まったく同様に緑色りん光有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子を作製した。
実施例2において、基板2の代わりに柱状凸部を形成していない基板1を用いた他は、実施例2とまったく同様にして、白色りん光の積層型素子を形成し、実施例2と同様にPESシートで封止を行なって、有機EL素子OLED2−2を作製した。
実施例3において、基板4の代わりに柱状凸部を形成していない基板3を用いた他は、実施例3とまったく同様にして、緑色りん光の積層型素子を形成し、実施例3と同様にPESシートで封止を行なって、有機EL素子OLED2−3を作製した。
上記のようにして得られた有機EL素子を以下の評価方法に従って評価を行い、結果を表1に示す。
有機EL素子OLED1−1では、駆動電圧4Vで電流が流れ始め、緑色の発光を示した。有機EL素子OLED1−1の温度23℃、10V直流電圧を印加した時の発光輝度
(cd/m2)、発光効率(lm/W)を測定した。
発光点灯時に封止板側から、先端の直径が1.5cmの球状の10gのプラスチック棒を5cmの高さから落下させた場合の点灯状態で判定した。
10mA/cm2の一定電流で200時間駆動させた後に、6mm×15mmの範囲での目視で確認できる非発光領域(ダークスポット)を面積で5段階に評価した。
B・・・ほぼ良好。発光面積に対し、10%以下のダークスポット。
C・・・非発光部と発光部の輝度の差が大きく、なんらかの改良が必要。
D・・・発光面積の大部分でダークスポットが成長し、50%以上が暗い。
E・・・光っている部分が少なく、実用化できないレベル。
光学顕微鏡下で頭頂部と基板接触部分との水平長さの比を計測した。
