Abstract
【解決手段】 陽極と陰極との間に、発光層を含む少なくとも一層の有機化合物層を有する有機電界発光素子であって、前記有機化合物層が、電圧の印加により蛍光発光する蛍光発光化合物と、増幅剤とを含有し、前記増幅剤のりん光発光極大波長が500nm以下であり、電圧印加時の発光が主に蛍光化合物からの発光に由来することを特徴とする有機電界発光素子である。
前記増幅剤が、電圧の印加により生成する一重項励起子の数を増幅させて電圧印加時の発光強度を増幅させる機能を有する化合物であることが好ましい。

Description
〔1〕 陽極と陰極との間に、発光層を含む少なくとも一層の有機化合物層を有する有機電界発光素子であって、
前記有機化合物層が、電圧の印加により蛍光発光する蛍光発光化合物と、増幅剤とを含有し、
前記増幅剤のりん光発光極大波長が500nm以下であり、電圧印加時の発光が主に蛍光化合物からの発光に由来することを特徴とする有機電界発光素子である。

主に蛍光発光することは、発光のレスポンス、耐久性が向上し、また、高輝度時(例えば1000cd/m2以上)の効率低下が少ない点で好ましい。
りん光発光極大波長が500nmを超えると、特に青色発光素子の効率が低下してしまう。
60kcal/mol〜90kcal/molとすることで、発光効率を向上させることができる。
60kcal/mol〜90kcal/molとすることで、発光層の三重項励起子の消光(消滅)を防ぐことができ、発光効率を向上させる。

一般式(3)中、L91、L92、n91、n92はそれぞれ前記L81、L82、n81、n82と同義であり、好ましい範囲も同じである。
(a)蛍光を発する化合物もしくはその混合物を蒸着する。その際、増幅剤もしくはその混合物の蒸着を蒸着源付近に設置したシャッターで塞ぎ、増幅剤もしくはその混合物が作製中の素子に蒸着されることを抑制する。
(b)増幅剤もしくはその混合物を蒸着する。その際、蛍光化合物もしくはその混合物の蒸着を、蒸着源付近に設置したシャッターで塞ぎ、蛍光化合物もしくはその混合物が作製中の素子に蒸着されることを抑制する。
(c)(a)、(b)の工程を繰り返し行う。各工程の切り替えは蒸着源付近に設置したシャッターの開閉で行う。例えば、実施例1に記載のプロセスがこれに相当する。
(a)増幅剤もしくはその混合物を蒸着する。その際、蛍光化合物もしくはその混合物の蒸着源を、蒸着源付近に設置したシャッターで塞ぎ、蛍光化合物もしくはその混合物が作製中の素子に蒸着されることを抑制する。
(b)蛍光を発する化合物もしくはその混合物を蒸着する。その際、増幅剤もしくはその混合物の蒸着を、蒸着源付近に設置したシャッターで塞ぎ、増幅剤もしくはその混合物が作製中の素子に蒸着されることを抑制する。
(c)(a)、(b)の工程を繰り返し行う。各工程の切り替えは蒸着源付近に設置したシャッターの開閉で行う。
積層を構成する各層の膜厚は特に限定されないが、0.2nm以上、20nm以下が好ましく、0.4nm以上、15nm以下がより好ましく、0.5nm以上10nm以下がさらに好ましく、1nm以上5nm以下が特に好ましい
陽極は、洗浄その他の処理により、素子の駆動電圧を下げたり発光効率を高めることも可能である。例えばITOの場合、UV−オゾン処理、プラズマ処理などが効果的である。
陰極の作製には電子ビーム法、スパッタリング法、抵抗加熱蒸着法、コーティング法、転写法などの方法が用いられ、金属を単体で蒸着することも、二成分以上を同時に蒸着することもできる。さらに、複数の金属を同時に蒸着して合金電極を形成することも可能であり、またあらかじめ調製した合金を蒸着させてもよい。陽極及び陰極のシート抵抗は低い方が好ましく、数百Ω/□以下が好ましい。
発光層の形成方法は、特に限定されるものではないが、抵抗加熱蒸着、電子ビーム、スパッタリング、分子積層法、コーティング法、インクジェット法、印刷法、LB法、転写法などの方法が用いられ、好ましくは抵抗加熱蒸着、コーティング法である。
洗浄したITO基板を蒸着装置に入れ、TPD(N,N’−ジフェニル−N,N’−ジ(m−ナトリル)−ベンジジン)を厚さ50nmとなるように蒸着し、正孔輸送層を形成した。この上に、下記化学式で表される化合物A(ホスト材料、T1=65kcal/mol)と下記化学式で表される化合物D(蛍光発光化合物)とを99:1(質量比)の比率で厚さ1nmとなるように蒸着し、この上に化合物Aと増幅剤としての化合物(1−2)(溶液系のりん光極大波長は470nmであった(20℃))とを17:1(質量比)の比率で厚さ1nmとなるように蒸着した。このプロセスを18回繰り返し、計36nmの厚さの薄膜(発光層)を形成した。その際、化合物Aと化合物Dとを入れた坩堝、及び、化合物Aと化合物(1−2)を入れた坩堝は常時蒸着できる温度に加熱し、坩堝付近に設置したシャッターの切り替えで繰り返し蒸着を行った。
化合物Aの代わりに下記化学式で表される化合物C(ホスト材料、T1=67kcal/mol)を用い、化合物(1−2)の代わりに化合物(1−3)(溶液系のりん光極大波長は466nmであった(20℃))を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様にして素子を作製しこれを評価した。その結果、発光極大波長が500nm以下の青色発光が得られ、200cd/m2での外部量子効率は3.3%であった。
化合物Aの代わりに化合物Cを用い、化合物(1−2)の代わりに化合物(1−4)(溶液系のりん光極大波長は459nmであった(20℃))を用いた以外は実施例1と同様に素子を作製しこれを評価した。その結果、発光極大波長が500nm以下の青色発光が得られ、200cd/m2での外部量子効率は3.6%であった。
化合物(1−2)の代わりに、化合物(1−21)を用い、実施例1と同様に素子作製、評価を行った。その結果、発光極大波長が500nm以下の青色発光が得られ、200cd/m2での外部量子効率は3.4%であった。
洗浄したITO基板を蒸着装置に入れ、TPD(N,N’−ジフェニル−N,N’−ジ(m−ナトリル)−ベンジジン)を厚さ60nmとなるように蒸着した。この上に、下記化学式で表されるCBP(T1=60kcal/mol)およびDCM2を99:1の比率(質量比)で厚さ1nmとなるように蒸着し、この上にCBPと下記化学式で表されるIr(ppy)3を90:10(質量比)の比率で厚さ1nmとなるように蒸着した。このプロセスを5回繰り返し、計10nmの10層の交互積層膜を形成した。

- 陽極と陰極との間に、発光層を含む少なくとも一層の有機化合物層を有する有機電界発光素子であって、
前記有機化合物層が、電圧の印加により蛍光発光する蛍光発光化合物と、増幅剤とを含有し、
前記増幅剤のりん光発光極大波長が500nm以下であり、電圧印加時の発光が主に蛍光化合物からの発光に由来することを特徴とする有機電界発光素子。 - 前記増幅剤が、電圧の印加により生成する一重項励起子の数を増幅させて電圧印加時の発光強度を増幅させる機能を有する化合物であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 前記蛍光発光化合物からの発光極大波長が500nm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の有機電界発光素子。
