Abstract

986,099. Volume control circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and C. BOWDEN. July 13, 1961 [April 13, 1960], No. 24480/61. Divided out of 986,098. Heading H4R. A variable-impedance network comprises a bridge circuit 4 of rectifiers, the impedance of the bridge across one diagonal being controlled by a voltage applied across the other diagonal. The rectifiers are chosen to give a logarithmic variation of current with voltage in the working range. The A.C. signal whose amplitude is to be controlled, is applied to the primary of transformer 2 and the output is derived at the secondary of transformer 6. A maximum value for the impedance of the circuit may be determined by suitably limiting the amplitude of the control signal or by providing a suitable shunt path around the bridge.
