Abstract

748,746. Alternate use of channels. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 21, 1954, No. 27266/54. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] The Figure shows a rectifier switching circuit in which in dependence upon the polarity of a D.C. control voltage applied across terminals 7, 8 a transmission line connected to coaxial jack 5 is switched either to that connected across input 4 or input 6 respectively. When terminal 7 is positive with respect to terminal 8 rectifiers 11-14 and 23-26 are conductive and rectifiers 19-22 and 15-18 blocked so that input 4 is connected to output 5 and the path from input 6 is blocked. When terminal 8 is positive with respect to 7 input 6 is connected to output 5 and the path from input 4 is blocked. If transformers 1, 2, 3 are designed to give a correct impedance match to their respective transmission lines this will not be appreciably upset by the switching circuits 9 and 10. The transformers should preferably have a high step-up ratio as seen from the transmission lines so that a large difference is obtained in the attenuation of the switch circuits 9, 10 in the blocked and unblocked conditions.
