981,647. Securing articles on shafts. R. & J. DICK Ltd. Jan. 9, 1964 [Jan. 18, 1963], No. 2398/63. Heading F2U. A pulley, gear or like element is secured on a shaft by a split conical sleeve 1 having grooves 7 engaged by the heads 6 of screws 5 which when tightened into the pulley hub 3 draw the latter over the sleeve 1 to contract the sleeve on to the shaft. To facilitate assembly apertures 8 are provided between the end face of the sleeve 1 and grooves 7 through which the screw heads 6 pass into the grooves 7. Prior to final tightening of the screws the hub 3 is turned relative to the sleeve 1 so that on slackening the screws 5 the heads 6 abut the groove and push the hub 3 off the sleeve. The sleeve 1 may additionally be keyed to the shaft.
