Abstract

A lubricating oil composition comprises a major proportion of a mineral lubricating oil, 0.3-2.0 wt. per cent of benzal cyclohexylamine, and 0.25-2.0 wt. per cent of an alkyl phenol having at least one secondary or tertiary alkyl substituent in the ortho position to the hydroxy group. Mono and binuclear phenols are exemplified including o-isopropyl phenol, 2,4-dimethyl-6 - t - butyl phenol, 4 - methyl - 2 - t - butyl phenol, 3,31,5,51 - tetra - t - butyl - 4,41 - di-hydroxydiphenyl, and 1,1 - bis (3,5 - di - t-butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl) methane, others of similar nature also being mentioned.
