Abstract

522,191. Lubricating-compositions. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. June 14, 1939, No. 17381. Convention date, July 7, 1938. [Class 91] Lubricating oils or greases with a high film strength and suitable for extreme pressure lubrication are prepared by adding to lubricating oils or greases a bis-alkyl xanthogene having at least three carbon atoms in the alkyl group and having a decomposition point of at least 150‹C. Compounds mentioned include bis-butylxanthogene, bis-propylxanthogene, bis-amylxanthogene, bis-isobutylxanthogene, bisheptylxanthogene, bis-octylxanthogene, bis-decylxanthogene, bis-dodecylxanthogene, and bisbenzylxanthogene. The xanthogenes are added in amounts of from 0.1-10 per cent. by weight of the oil or grease.
