Abstract

976,646. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Dec. 1, 1961 [Dec. 16, 1960], No. 43132/61. Heading H1D. In a method of gettering an electron tube, e.g. a television display tube, comprising an electron gun having an apertured end electrode 38 disposed between a getter 63 and other parts of the gun, the aperture in electrode 38 is covered by a metal foil 64 which is pierced by electron bombardment after the gettering material has been vaporized. As shown, foil 64 of aluminium, titanium, zirconium, thorium or " Ceralloy " (Registered Trade Mark), is spotwelded to the getter-side of insert 50, but alternatively, a cup-shaped foil may be sandwiched between insert 50 and tubular electrode 38.
