Abstract

985,514. Cathode-ray tubes. RANK-BUSH MURPHY Ltd. April 18, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No. 14279/61. Heading H1D. A front-projection cathode-ray tube comprises a metal closure member 5 sealed to the body of the envelope 3 of the tube by a rim 6 lying in a plane parallel to the margin of an aperture in the tube envelope and dished so that a planar area of its inner surface which carries a luminescent screen 7 is displaced from the plane of the rim. In a particular example, the glass of the envelope was a lead glass, the metal closure member a nickel-chromium-iron alloy, and the two components sealed by a suitable sealing glass having a matching coefficient of thermal expansion. The displaced planar area of the metal enclosure member may lie in a plane inclined to that of the rim so that the normal at the point of intersection of the neck axis 2 has an angle of incidence upon a planar optical window 4 which differs substantially from zero, as described in Specification 985,513.
