Abstract

692,228. Sealing glass to glass. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BREADNER, R. L., and SIMS, C. H. Feb. 29, 1952 [March 2, 1951], No. 5136/51. Class 56. [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL (a)] In the making of a hollow vessel, particularly a cathode ray tube, comprising a glass or metal body portion 2 to which a glass cover plate 1 (the screen) is sealed, the cover plate is provided on its peripheral edge 8 with at least three small wedge-shaped projections 9, point downwards, so that the plate is centred within the aperture of the body by the abutment of the sides of the wedges against the side of the aperture as a preliminary to sealing the plate within the aperture e.g. by a glass cement or by fusion.
