Abstract
1,245,387. Image intensifier tubes. ALBISWERK ZURICH A.G. 18 June, 1970 [19 June, 1969], No. 29547/70. Heading H1D. An image intensifier tube comprising a luminescent screen (not shown) on which electrons from a photocathode 2 are focused by a lens 9 including a frusto-conical part 9b and a cylindrical part 9a provided with at least one aperture 10 for the insertion of a vaporizer during the deposition of the cathode, is characterized by the provision of a cylindrical screen 8 surrounding the electrode 9 to prevent external electric fields from penetrating the aperture 10. The screen 8 is provided with an aperture 11 for the insertion of a vaporizer through the envelope at 7 and may include a second diametrically opposed aperture. The end of the screen 8 may be rolled over at 12, or the space between the two cylinders may be closed off by a ring welded to both of them; the end of the frusto-conical portion 9b should be welded to the screen 8. Cathode potential is extended as far as the lens via cylinders 4 and 5, the cylinder 4 being fused to the glass envelope portion 6.
