1295875 Colour television tubes TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT mbH 2 Dec 1969 [4 Dec 1968 14 June 1969] 58850/69 Heading H1D A colour television tube comprising a faceplate 1 sealed to a cone 7 by a glass solder 6 is provided with means for preventing at least part of the seal from being charged by the beam. When the tube includes a rectangular shadow mask 3 attached to a frame 4 a screen 13 may be attached to the frame to protect the seal 6 from electron bombardment. The screen 13 may be provided only at the four corners or may extend all round, and a flange may extend to the envelope, as shown in Fig. 6, to prevent electrons from passing round the side of the shadow mask. An alternative method of preventing the seal from charging consists in making the seal of conductive material, or of providing a conductive coating over the seal to extend between the usual conductive coatings provided on the faceplate and on the cone. Such a coating may be provided by means of an evaporator on the frame 4 which is fired like a getter. Alternatively an evaporator may be introduced into the neck of the tube to evaporate aluminium over the seal.
