Abstract
1,236,045. Luminescent screens. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 5 Sept., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 42248/68. Heading H1D. A "lighthouse" structure for photo-deposition of the colour dots of a colour television tube, comprises a light source 70, Fig. 6, disposed in a keyhole-shaped aperture in a collar 71. In the direction of the limb 89 of the keyhole the light source has an extended area, shown by the shaded lines, so that the resulting colour dots are elongated into a pear-shape, whereas in other directions the dots remain circular. The limb 89 is pointed along the 10 o'clock axis for deposition of green dots, and along the 2 o'clock axis for deposition of red dots; for blue dots the limb may be pointed along the 6 o'clock axis if the screen is circular, but with a rectangular screen it is preferable to employ a collar with two slots pointing respectively towards the lower corners of the screen (Fig. 5, not shown). The lighthouse also includes a refractor element (73, Fig. 4, not shown) to compensate for movement of the centre of deflection of the electron beams.
