Abstract

1,197,556. Cathode - ray display tubes. ZENITH RADIO CORP. 26 Feb., 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 1037]/69. Heading H1D. The edges of coaxial cylindrical electrodes forming an electrostatic lens are shaped to screen the lens from the effect of changes accumulating on the envelope of a cathode ray tube. Fig. 1 shows a colour television tube of the shadow mask-type using three electron guns each of which includes a lens system G3, G4, G5; the edges of the outer electrodes G3 and G5 are curved back at 31 and the edges of the centre electrodes G4 are curved in concentric arcs 30. The spacing between the electrodes should be small compared with the radial length of the flanges 30. When a blue lateral connection magnet is provided, the G3 electrodes of the red and green guns should preferably be of material of high permeability to protect these beams from the influence of the magnet; the G4 electrodes should also be of high permeability material to shield the lenses from stray magnetic fields.
