Abstract

993,270. Colour television tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. May 7, 1962 [May 8, 1961], No. 17375/62. Heading H1D. In a cathode-ray tube comprising a plurality of electron guns 16, 17, 18 projecting beams of different velocities towards a screen 20, as shown a colour screen composed of superimposed phosphor layers 22, 24, 26 into which the beams penetrate to different extents to excite the various colours, the beams of higher velocity are shielded by tubes 76, 78 from the common deflection field to a sufficient degree for all the beams, despite their different velocities, to be deflected to the same extent. The deflection field is set up by a magnetic yoke 28 and the shields 76, 78 are composed of magnetic material and may be composite structures with inner and outer concentric tubes of different magnetic materials. The tubes 76, 78 are mounted on the end plates 42 of a dynamic convergence system 40. Beam centring magnetic polepieces 70, 72 are provided for the guns which may be mounted in a triangular arrangement or in planar array. The screen 20 may include non-luminescent separator layers between the phosphor layers.
