Abstract

1,274,346. Cathode-ray display tubes. TOYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 27 Feb., 1970 [28 Feb., 1969 (3)], No. 9697/70. Heading H1D. A colour television tube of the shadow mask type, comprising a faceplate joined by a cone to a neck portion, is characterized in that the cross-section of the inner surface of the neck portion is rectangular at least at the part adjacent the cone and is provided with grooves at its comers so that it does not shield the faceplate at wide deflection angles. In one arrangement, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), grooves are formed in the corners of a square neck and extend along the cone. The neck may have a larger cross-section at the front portion than at the rear portion, which may be cylindrical. Alternatively the neck may be of constant cross-section.
