Abstract

1,179,708. Colour television tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 20 Sept., 1967 [20 Sept., 1966], No. 42882/67. Addition to 1,055,604. Heading H1D. A method of manufacture of a colour television tube as in Specification 1,055,604, wherein a front panel including a screen is baked to stabilize its dimensions before the deposition of the phosphor dots on the screen, is characterized in that a shadow mask and its resilient supports are also baked, preferably by being secured to the panel before the panel baking process, so that this process also stabilizes and stress relieves the shadow mask and the resilient supports. The baking process may be carried out on a conveyerized air atmosphere lehr at a a temperature not exceeding 470‹ C. for at least one hour. A non-oxidizing shield may be placed adjacent the open side of the mask-panel assembly to prevent heavy oxidation of the metallic parts of the mask during baking, or alternatively a second mask-panel assembly may be used as a shield, the two assemblies being placed with their open sides adjacent.
