Abstract
D 5-17a -Allyl-3b :17b -dihydroxy androstene-3-semidiglycollate is prepared by reacting D 5-17a -allyl-3b :17 b -dihydroxyandrostene with digly-collic acid anhydride in pyridine. It may be converted to the sodium salt by dissolution in sodium bicarbonate solution and byophilization of the solution. By similar means, starting with 17a - isobutyl - 3b : 17b - dihydroxy - androstane, there is obtained 17a -isobutyl-3b :17 b -dihydroxy-androstane-3-semidiglycollate and its sodium salt. Specification 968,870 is referred to.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions having antiallergic and/or antianaphylactic activity comprise a carrier and a 3b : 17b -dihydroxy compound of the androstane or D 5-androstene series which has in the 17a -position a C3-7 alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group and/or a 3-monoester or a salt of a 3-mono-semi-ester thereof, the esters being formed with a saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic mono- or di-carboxylic acid or with a sulpho-benzoic acid, numerous specific examples of which are given and the salts being those with alkali- and alkaline-earth-metal (including magnesium) cations and with aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and araliphatic amines. They may be in forms suitable for enteral, parenteral or topical administration, e.g. tablets, dragees, oily or aqueous solutions and suspensions, implants, ointments and creams which comprise conventional pharmaceutical excipients. Specification 968,870 is referred to.
