Abstract

The invention comprises O-acyl derivatives of 3, 5-diiodo -4- (31-iodo -41-hydroxyphenoxy)-benzoic acid, in which the acyl group is an aliphatic carboxylic acid acyl group containing up to 4 carbon atoms, a monocyclic aromatic carboxylic acid acyl group or an aralkyl carboxylic acid acyl group; and their preparation by reacting the hydroxy compound with an appropriate acylating agent. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise an effective non-toxic amount of a compound of the invention and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. Forms (tablets, granules, powder or solution) for administration orally and by injection are mentioned. The compounds lower the blood cholesterol level.
