Abstract

968,761. Root-crop harvesters. F. A. STANDEN &- SONS Ltd., and P STANDEN. Aug. 28, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962], No. 33622/62. Heading A1F. A root-crop harvester comprises lifting shares 2 disposed at the leading end of an upwardly and rearwardly inclined elevator 3 and the passage of the roots on to the elevator is assisted by rotary flail-elements 6 comprising a plurality of resilient arms having eyes mounted on pivot-rods 7 which extend parallel to a power-driven flail-shaft 8. Each pivot-rod 7 carries a group of three arms arranged side-byside so as to be freely swing- able into a radially-extending position during rotation of the flail-shaft. A pair of discs 12 are mounted freely on the flailshaft to flank the flails and ensure that the crop is thrown rearwardly on to the elevator. The elevator is an endless linkweb of openwork construction and a single stationary run 4 of link-web is arranged to sag over its upper run to retain the crop. Alternatively, the elevator may comprise two super-imposed link-web conveyers. The elevator and flailshaft are driven from the power-take-off of the towing tractor.
