Abstract

1,076,461. Root crop harvester. T. CAMPBELL. March 31, 1965 [March 31, 1964], No. 13324/64. Heading A1F. A machine for harvesting two adjacent rows of root crops, e.g. potatoes, comprises digging and topping units, and an elevator 14 which introduces harvested crop to a centrifugal table 15. Each topping unit comprises a wheel 25 rotatably mounted on a substantially vertical axis 26, and an endless band 27 which is driven from a main shaft 29. The tops of the crops are introduced to the "V-shaped" intake 33 and are removed by the action of the band against the wheel 25. The crops are then lifted from the soil by diggers (37) (Fig. 2, not shown) and are introduced to the elevator by a tined wheel 35 which is mounted on the shaft 29. Also mounted on the shaft are wheels 41 which direct crops towards the tined wheel.
