Abstract
593,040. Potato harvesters. OPPERMAN, O. R. March 2, 1945, No. 5211. [Class 6 (iii)] A root crop harvester includes a spinner rotatable on a vertical axis 14 and one or more spinners 20 rotatable on a horizontal axis behind and to one side of the first spinner, the former spinner 14 removing the haulms to one side of the row, and the latter spinners 20 clearing the haulms away from the rows. A pivotal frame 7 mounted on the front of the chassis 8 of the harvesting machine has a ground roller 12 behind which the spinner 14 is mounted, and which is driven by a shaft 15 connected by a universal joint to an engine on the main chassis, followed by the spinners 20 mounted on a shaft 17 driven by a chain 19 from the shaft 15. The spinners comprise a plurality of strip metal blades fixed to a central base. The crops are subsequently lifted by a share and passed to a separator-conveyer where they are cleaned by a rotary brush. Specifications 559,534 and 579,492 are referred to.
