Abstract

843,600. Root-crop harvesters. CATCHPOLE ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 1, 1959, No. 11048/59. Class 6(3). A root-crop harvester incorporates a hopper 10 into which the harvested roots are deposited by an elevator 8, the hopper having a further elevator 30 for emptying it. The machine is mounted on wheels 2, 4 and is towed by a tractor (not shown) which drives the elevators through jointed shafts 17, 18 and chain-drives 63, 50. The elevator 30 forms the base and one inclined side of the hopper 10 and extends both vertically and laterally beyond it. A spinner 11 is mounted on brackets 13, 14 within the upper end of the front wall of the hopper and extends through a slot therein to receive the crop from the elevator 8. The elevator 30 may be clutched to the drive from the tractor so as to operate either when the machine is travelling or is stationary.
