Abstract
782,589. Beet-harvesting. BUTCHER, R. F. WITT, R. F. and GARFORD, N.A. Nov. 29, 1955 [Feb. 22, 1955], No. 5285/55. Addition to 730,673. Class 6(3). In a modification of the beet-harvester described in the parent Specification, the cage 24 above the transverse beet-cleaning drums 14, 15 is reduced in size so as to accommodate a finger-carrying shaft 27 arranged parallel to the drums and rotated in the opposite direction to assist in cleaning the beet. The lower conveyer belt 7 is also extended rearwardly by a horizontal run 9 so that the beets are carried along level with the drums 14, 15. Adjacent to the conveyer-run 9 the cage is extended by fixed fingers 26 interleaved with the fingers 28, which at that point are of rubber. The elevator 45 extends longitudinally of the drums 14, 15 and is driven by belt 43 and pulleys 44 from the shaft 27. As in the parent Specification, the drums and conveyers are driven, in sequence, from a gear-box 40 coupled, by a jointed shaft 41, to the towing tractor from which the front part of the implement is suspended by a triangulated bracket 52. Adjustable depthwheels 2 are provided.
