543,411. Harvesting potatoes. TURNER, J. H., GORDON, H., and GORDON, J. Nov. 9, 1940 No.1629]. [Class 6 (iii)] A tractor-driven potato harvester comprises a scoop c<SP>1</SP>, an adjustably inclined sifting conveyer c, formed of transverse rods secured to endless chains and a cloth conveyer e, which has first an inclined run and then a horizontal one at a convenient height for persons standing on platforms g to pick the potatoes on to conveyer belts f, moving in troughs along the sides of the conveyer e. Stones fall from the end of the horizontal run of the conveyer e and the potatoes pass from the ends of the conveyers f into a Shoot h and thence to the boot of an elevator belt i, which delivers them to a hopper j. The potatoes are discharged intermittently from the hopper j through a manually operated door into a cart or waggon. The various conveyers are driven from a transverse shaft b connected by belt and bevel gearing with a longitudinal shaft a connected by universal joints with a power take-off shatt on the tractor.
