Abstract

967,561. Furnace linings. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. March 14, 1962 [March 10, 1961], No. 9752/62. Heading F4B. A chrome based refractory lining for a furnace burning liquid fuel containing vanadium, is fired with solid fuels, one of which forms a basic slag whilst the other forms an acid slag so that both slags combine with the lining. A cyclone furnace with wall tubes is internally lined with chrome-based refractory material and then fired alternately or simultaneously with pulverized coal and sulphite liquor powder to produce a sintered mass on the lining. When using liquid fuel vanadium pentoxide is formed and absorbed by the pores of the lining.
