Abstract

1,203,755. Burning pulverulent fuel. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 23 Jan., 1968 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 48305/66. Heading F4B. Pulverulent solid fuel is burnt in chamber filled with a cloud of ash, combustion air being introduced at one point and hot gases and burnt fuel being withdrawn at another point. Air is introduced below the perforated bottom 6 of a combustion chamber to which powdered fuel is introduced at 8A and hot gases and ash withdrawn at 9. Ash separated from the exhaust is returned at 12 to maintain the amount of solid in the chamber, and heat exchange tubes 2 within the combustion chamber maintain the temperature between 550‹-900‹ C. In another embodiment, the ash cloud is circulated in a closed loop, air entrained fuel being introduced into one leg, and the pressure drop along the other leg being used to control the recirculation of ash.
