Abstract

1,046,871. Burning low grade fuel. VON ROLL A.G. Oct. 24, 1963 [Oct. 31, 1962], No. 42102/63. Heading F4B. In a steam generator furnace, low-grade fuel, such as refuse, is burnt on a grate 7 and highgrade fuel, which may be gas, oil or pulverized coal, is burnt in combustion chambers 14, 15 which deliver through apertures 10 to the upper part of the combustion chamber. The gases from the low-grade fuel and the chambers 14, 15 mix and pass over the heat exchange surfaces 1, 2 of the steam generator. The amount of fuel fed to the chambers 14, 15, the airsupply 142, 152 to the chambers and the water supplied to nozzles 143, 153 delivering into the throats 10 are controlled in accordance with the temperature measured above the first heat exchange surface 1 and at the flue outlet, and the pressure of the boiler, the differences in the oxygen content measured above the grate 7, above the heat exchange surface 1 and in the chambers 14, 15 and differences in the moisture content above the grate 7 and above the heat exchange surface 1 respectively, so that variations in the quality of the refuse can be compensated. A drying grate 6 receives the refuse from the shoot 12.
