Abstract

1489331 Burning fluent fuel J HUNTER 28 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 40562/73 Heading F4B [Also in Division C5] Solid, liquid or gaseous fuel is burnt, or solid or liquid fuel is gasified with steam in a rotary combustion chamber having air inlets spaced along its length and the fuel supplied with a whirl, the speed of rotation of the chamber being such as to retain the burning fuel in the chamber for as long as desired. A removable combustion chamber for a boiler furnace, supplied with pulverized coal whirled in contrarotation to the rotation of the chamber 21 by vanes 3 in an end cone 5, has air supply slots spaced over its whole length. Flue gas from the interior of the boiler tube are returned through ducta 17, 42 and a primary air duct 2 to the fuel supply tube 38. The combustion chamber has a re-entrant end 33, and a slag outlet 43. The shell may be water cooled, scoops on burner end of shell co-operating with a tank to circulate the water through flow and return pipes. There may be an ash trap in the boiler furnace, and a water filled ash space 20 receives ash from the boiler and from the combustion chamber. The apparatus may be used for the production of combustion gas by the provision of a steam injector, and regulation of the speed of rotation.
