Abstract

1,010,377. Refuse consuming furnaces. VON ROLL A.G. July 10, 1963 [July 12, 1962], No. 27411/63. Heading F4B. Dewatered sewage sludge from a water purification plant is dried at 2 by hot air and fed to the furnace 6. The air-vapour mixture from the drier 2 is fed to the furnace at 8 to supply primary combustion air. Part of the air-vapour mixture from the drier 2 is passed through a heat exchanger 14 in the path of the flue gases from the furnace 6 and forms the preheated secondary air. Additional fuel, which may be gas formed by the putrefaction of the sludge during its pre-treatment, is supplied at 9. The air for the drier 2 is heated in a heat exchanger 15 in the path of the flue gases, and a waste heat boiler 16 produces steam which may be used in the pretreatment of the sludge. The smoke and gases are passed through a dust extractor 17 and fan 18 to the chimney. In a modification, the sewage from the drier is ground and blown in to the furnace by the air-vapour mixture from the drier. Part of the flue gases may be recirculated to the furnace. The pulverulent sludge and additional fuel may be supplied through common burners.
