Abstract
1,091,677. Boiler stoves; feeding air to boilers. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. March 9, 1965 [March 13, 1964], No. 10747/64. Headings F4B and F4W. For utilizing high volatile solid fuel in a domestic central heating boiler, a combustion chamber 1 of inverted frusto-conical form having a fire bed 2, which may be detachable, at its apex is completely enclosed by a water jacket 3, serially connected with a heat exchanger 4 surrounding a gas exit flue 5. Due to the shape of said combustion chamber 1, solid particles entrained in the waste gases fall back, facilitating smokeless operation at any temperature. Fuel is fed from a hopper 6 by a roller feed 7 to the bed 2 through the centre of a vertical air feed annulus 8 terminating in a ring 9 containing a plurality of air outlets. The fuel is ignited by a hot-air igniter 10 automatically controlled by a switch (not shown) connected to means responsive to the water temperature in the jacket 3, thus providing intermittent operation of the boiler. Non-automatic control of the boiler may be effected if preferred.
