Abstract
751,241. Slag-tap furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Feb. 26, 1954 [Feb. 28, 1953], No. 5718/54. Drawings to Specification. Classes 50 and 51(1). In a slag-tap furnace such as a cyclone furnace fired with coal the slag from which contains a high percentage of calcium oxide, quartz sand or other material containing silica is added to the fuel to act as a flux and so reduce the fusion and flow temperatures of the slag. The amount of silica added is such that the total quantities of silica and calcium oxide in the slag are approximately equal.
