Abstract

967,163. Winches; hose rails. COAL INDUSTRIES (PATENTS) Ltd. Sept. 26, 1960 [Sept. 25, 1959; Aug. 2, 1960], Nos. 32684/59 and 26725/60. Headings B8B and B8M. [Also in Divisions E1 and F1] A multiple winch for advancing mine roof supports (see Division E1) is actuated by an hydraulic gear motor 60 or a compressed air or electric motor and consists of four hose reels 61 selectively driven by a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism. Each reel is associated with two toothed discs 78, 79 alternately advanced by pawls 76, 77 mounted on eccentrics 74 which are arranged 180 degrees out of phase on a common driving shaft 73. Each pair of pawls is urged into or out of engagement with the discs by means of an hydraulic ram 80 acting upon a universallyjointed cross-member 81 between the pawls. The winch is mounted on the coal conveyer 10 and advances the roof supports by pulling on their control hoses 108 or on chains or ropes. The reels and spindle are parted to allow selective communication with the control hoses 108 of an hydraulic system (see Heading F1P), for controlling the lowering and advancing mine roof support.
