Grabbing equipment for use in the sinking of a mine shaft consists of a rigid rectangular frame 2, a bridge structure moving along a trackway formed by a pair of opposed sides of the frame, a carriage movable along the bridge, a winch 9 mounted on the carriage and supporting a grab 11, and telescopic clamps 16 mounted on the frame for engaging the lining of the shaft to control the positioning of the frame in the shaft.
