Abstract
1,042,160. Bundling-apparatus. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION Ltd. May 21, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 28536/63. Heading B8C. A bundle of rolled bars 2 to be tied, is first compacted in a flexible cradle 9 by repeated relative movement of the cradle supports 4 7. The cradle com prises five chains or ropes 9 carried by supports, provided at spaced intervals along straight girders 1, 1a. The supports 4 are all fixed whilst the supports 7 are moved together under manual or automatic control about a common shaft 6, turned by hydraulic or pneumatic rams 10 or a mechanical drive. When the cradles are in the closed position shown the bundles are tied with wires or straps. The supports may be mounted on a weighbridge 14, and may be connected to a bar mill so that they are always in the open position (Fig. 3, not shown) when receiving bars from the mill.
