Abstract

966,896. Flexible bottles. C. PARKER. Oct. 11, 1961 [Oct. 14, 1960], No. 36414/61. Heading B8D. A resilient walled, collapsible bottle moulded in polyethylene comprises a wall formed of spiral hollow ribs 16 of V-shape cross-section so that axial compression collapses the ribs and expels the contents, the resilience of the walls being sufficient to restore the bottle from the collapsed to the erected position. An internal expeller 21, formed integrally with the hollow base 11, projects centrally within the bottle and may be provided with scrapers 22 which assist in the expulsion of the contents. An integral neck 12 is threaded at 13 to receive a screw cap 14. On pushing the expeller 22 towards the neck 12 and allowing for relative rotation of the neck and base, the lowermost ribs 16 tend to fold together so that the contents is displaced from the base upwards. The side wall of the bottle may have an over-all cylindrical or upwardly tapered shape. The capacity of the bottle may be increased by rendering the expeller 21 collapsible.
