Abstract
962,418. Pressure gauges. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. May 24,1963 [May 25, 1962 ], No. 20296/62. Heading G1L. In an apparatus in which the pressure of a fluid 15, supplied to a chamber 12 through a port 16, is to be measured, the fluid passes through a port 19 into a cylinder 17 and acts against a differential piston 18 which is coarsely balanced by weights suspended from a frame 25 supported from the lower end of the piston 18 by a universal joint 24; the final balance is obtained by water pressure being read off a manometer 41. The chamber 12 is supported on a bracket 13 attached to a pillar 11 and the piston 18 is rotated by a motor 36 through a belt 35, spinner 34 and pins 37 driving a tray 28 attached to the piston 18. The pins 37 drive the tray 28 through ball races 38. A conical oil spreader 22 on the lower end of the piston 18 and located in a transparent cylinder 21 serves to throw fluid, leaking between the cylinder 17 and piston 18, on to the wall of the cylinder 21 from whence it drains into an annular reservoir 23.
