Abstract
619,253. Regulating the consistency of cellulose pulp. KALLE, K. T. Nov. 27, 1946, No. 35240. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1945. [Class 96] [Also in Group XIX] The concentration of cellulose pulp A is indicated or regulated by rotating a paddle 1 by a turbine 7 driven by a fluid at constant pressure, the speed of the paddle 1 being dependent upon, and being used for indicating or regulating the pulp concentration. A tubular extension 11 of the bearing casing 9 extends into a vessel 6 secured to the paddle spindle 2 at the lower end and has the turbine wheel 7 at the upper open end. The vessel 6 is filled with liquid, the surface of which assumes a parabolic shape. Air supplied at constant pressure to a pipe 10 passes through the housing 5 and extension 11 into the liquid in the vessel 6, and the pressure in the pipe 10 varies according to the shape of the paraboloid and .hence the speed of rotation of the paddle 1. These pressure variations can be measured by gauge 14 or used to control the admission of a diluent for the pulp A. In a modification, the turbine may be associated with tachometer which registers the speed of rotation.
